After I missed the first week and a half because I was in Iraq, I ended up having a nice season. I took a real nice Tom the last morning of season. He was 25 1/4 lbs with a 10 1/2 in beard and 1 1/8 in spurs. He strutted in like he was supposed too and I had my 6 year old with me, needless to say he is ruined. The first day I got to hunt I got a Tom in and shot him at about 45 yards away. He got up and tried to fly, but he did have enough energy to run away and I could not find him. I guess that I fed the coyotes that night. Oh well, that happens sometimes. Nice season guys.

Missed the opening weekend due to my father suddenly becoming ill. He is doing fine now. He was stable by Sunday night (April 16), so I went hunting Monday morning and got 1 bird. Decided to try to earn some brownie points by taking my wife to "Thunder Over Louisville" the next weekend since I had taken one bird. Then went hunting the next Monday morning (April 24) and got my second bird. The first had 10 1/2 inch beard and 7/8 in. spurs, the second had 10 inch beard, but had 1 1/4 inch spurs. I did not have an opportunity to weigh either bird, but I would estimate both at about 20 lb. Both hunts were fun and interesting. I heard numerous birds gobbling early on the 17th, and numerous shots. On the 24th, I heard NO gobbling till about 9:30 in the morning, then had 3 birds responding when my bird walked into view. I got some pictures of him strutting before I shot. It is great to be successful, but I miss the time in the woods.
