View Full Version : Well, I did it....
I missed two different birds this morning. The first brid was a misjudgement of yardage, the second was over the top of his head. I know I am gonig to catch nine kinds of hell over this. Bring it on! The Mossberg is not my favorite gun in my collection right now.
I had to beat skin_dog to this. unfortunately he was with me and witnessed the whole thing.:(

wow......I guess if the bird was 100 pounds and had a neck like a giraffe you'd have a chance eh?
Don't worry, I'm not laughing....
Well, I would tell you I told you not to buy that Mossblurb, but I won't. I hope it was on film from Skindog for historical purposes.....

I missed a bird in TN on the second day of season w/ my Mossberg this year. Did the same thing with it on opening day last year. Put the berg up for good. Anyone that wants to buy it let me know!

It's always the gun's fault....probably would have happened with your Remington too.. Don't suppose turkey fever had anything to do with it did it??;) Always remember...take a deep breath and squeeeeeze the trigger.:p Hope you have better luck this weekend!!!!
I can't figure out how a person who can shoot a 3 inch group at 40 yards with his bow, misses 3 turkeys in 6 months????????

Lab don't feel bad. I witnessed 2 misses yesterday with a Remington 870. 45 and 47 yards.

Put the gun up and take the bow. BTW, rifle sights or scope?

Rifle sights. If I keep the gun I will be looking into something different though.

The only turkey hunters that have never missed, are the ones that haven't shot at many birds.;)

Miss #uno on video. Unfortunately we had rain and a camera prob so the really good one number 2 we didn't get film. Let me give you a quick play by play of bird #2 - We're packing it up and I'm about to get in my truck to leave form labs house when he hears a bird in his pasture across the road. I'm already to go home and do some much needed yardwork, but I decide after the miss he needed to redeem himself and it wouldn't take too long to kill this one! This was at 9am! The first setup didn't work for whatever reason and the bird started leaving, but was still hot. Lab said he knew where he was headed so after a 1/2 mile or so circle we got set up again. It was gonna work perfect. Bird is hammering at everything. We're on a road leading from the ridge he's on to the food plot he wants to be in. It's almost like cheatin!!!!! Anyway, I realize he had stopped coming and was hungup 125 yards or so out. I stopped calling at all and he got tore up! He was gobbling at everything! Once a cricket chirped and he gobbled!!!! Finally after 60 or so gobbles he stops completely. I thought he's either coming or leaving so I scratch in the leaves a bit and give a purr or 2 and shortly later he hammers at less than 70 yards! He's ours now!!!! I was back in behind jon calling so I couldn't see, but after jon calmed down he told me the bird was struttin and gobblin right in front of him, what does he do........ He shoots at the very first oppurtunity which turned out to be 42 yards! Not a long shot, but you'd think he'd wait a little more after just missing one earlier. Oh well..... I had fun calling, especially with bird #2, just wish I would've seen the show since I didn't get to see him floppin! I had to shoot that gun to see where it was hitting. Center of the pattern was 1 foot high at 30 yards! Jon said he knew, and had adjusted, but when I got to looking there was a nice pattern on a dead tree behind where the bird was ------6' in the air! No wonder he missed, had I been shooting at a 6' turkey I would've gotten tom fever too....................:D Good luck tommorow Jon! :D :D :D

If only everyone could be as perfect as you are Dave!
To top this whole incident off.......
As I was leaving my farm this afternoon (across from Jon's), I look over into his property to see a monster gobbler just on the edge of his field fully fanned out with 2 hens. This gobbler was only 30 yards from the road I was on and ignoring me and another vehicle that were watching the show. It was probably even close enough for Jon to kill him........:D
Not sure if it was the same gobbler he shot at the day before, but this gobbler did walk with a limp ;) I called Jon an gave him the info, but he was already napping.........I guess shooting at all those gobblers makes you tired.....

It's like what someone said earlier, if you haven't missed a turkey, you haven't shot at too many. Sounds like what I did with my first turkey. NICE pattern on the tree behind him about 5 ft tall. My grandpa asked if I was shooting at an ostrich. haha. He had called for over an hour to get two real nice mature birds in and I missed! Oh well. It happens.
