This will only be my third year turkey hunting. All of my success has been in the morning. I'm wondering if others are doing any good in the evening hours?

Past success for me says 10-11 am is best time to bag bird, but I've heard gobbles this week at 4, 5, and 6 pm. If I've not gotten lucky in morning I will be trying again in the evening.

I have killed several gobbling birds after 6 in the evening. My biggest 25lbs was taken at 6:30 and he came in gobbling and strutting.:)

Being a college student with classes in the morning it is sometimes difficult for me to go in the morning. A few years ago at about 11:00. I headed out to the woods and spent just 30 minutes on the property before i had a good one down. I called and he was lonely i guess since the hens went to nest and he had no problem flying over a creek and coming under a fence for me.

I've had several hunts that if I had a video camera running you would have thought it was the first couple of hours of daylight, but it was of an evening.I'd say it runs somewere in the 50/50 range for me since they allowed you to hunt em after 1:00......any time is a good time to get out & chase turkeys, you never know what's going to happen unless you don't go.......

From 1000am, to 0200pm is the best time to hunt turkeys IMO. The hens are on their nest at this time and the gobblers get lonely. I saw a gobbler at 1130 strutting on a dirt road yesterday.

Toms have a habit of roosting in the same place day in day out. If you try unsuccessfully to work a bird off the roost and don't screw him, up then be back there in the evening and work him with some leaf scratching and clucks and purrs. He's apt to get close to try and spend the night with some girls so he'll have first crack at em in the morning. Good luck! Just watch your clock!!! Usually birds fly up with plenty of legal light.

I killed my biggest bird to date at 5:45 pm. two years ago. I get off work at 5pm and I will be hitting the woods every day, setting up to intercept the toms as they head to their roost site.

i have had good luck hunting near dusting spots in the afternoon...
or during the heat of the day low lying hollers/valleys near creeks is where they seem to hang out alot i would assume since its some what cooler in those areas

would agree with this, but would expand it to 0900-noon. Still, I love being out there really early to hear that roost gobbling. Additionally, I've never had even a hint of success in the late afternoons.

any time between 8 and 4 seems to work for me, ive never taken a bird before 8 but between 8 and 4 they are a lot easier to work and a lot more fun to hunt in my opinion. usually about 9, 12, and 3 are the best though
