You just don't hear much anymore about safety during turkey season, at least not like ya used too! INDENTIFY,IDENTIFY,IDENTIFY;) Pure & simple as that! Those hunting public, especially Peabody, keep those tempers in check, spirit of competetion in check, be considerate and IDENTIFY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Couldn't agree with you more. Although, regarding keeping tempers in check...I'm gonna be REAL pissed if somebody shoots me :p
In all seriousness, hunting public land can be dangerous. I would like to believe that the guys around here (kentuckyhunting) would not get over zealous. Again, I would like to think that anybody spending much time on the 'net on hunting forums knows better than to shoot at sound and/or "color".
Maybe we should start a list of good safety habits specific to turkey hunting.
DO NOT wear red or blue.
Cover your decoy, or at a minimum, the head, with blaze orange or camo for your walk in and out.
See above for how to treat your harvested bird.
What else?

I know safety is a big issue when turkey hunting but I'll just never understand how anyone could confuse a pair of white socks, or a pack of marlboros for a turkey. It happens so be careful. Remember only birds with visible beards are legal so unless that pack of marlboros or them white socks are bearded then they ain't legal!!!! And Goatees don't count!

I think alot of the problems stem from people out buying a liscense and a shot gun the night before. These people have no idea what they are doing.

I read an article a couple of years ago that stated that most turkey hunting accidents involve experienced hunters. The author theorized that experienced hunters were more likely to make rash decisions because they are confident in their hunting abilities and tend to hunt more aggressively than those with less experience.
It could happen to anyone in the heat of the moment.
Be safe.

I know it used to be emphasized alot in the hunter safety classes, but even though you've been hunting you should not forget the importance of hunting safety. Remember you can't call that shot back. Hunt safe and good hunting..
