I am so happy that turkey season is just around the corner...:)

I hate already hearing the stories about bait and those hunting before season starts. I just hope everyone that has a tract of ground to hunt does not blow a crow call every 100 ft, owl call twenty times while the birds are already gobbling, does not stop and look at my decoys from the road, run a box call once every 15 minutes, and do all those other things that just bother me! Not every person gets to hunt different states and prime turkey country...Not everyone understands that their is a lot of marketing taking place in the hunting industry...Not everyone understands the purpose of rules, laws, and regulations...

I know there are places I could go to fill my tags quicker but I love working them jokers on a ridge in the hardwoods!

Just remember before you go onto the next farm with out permission, or stop to look at a decoy in a field that there are some of us who wait all year for a few days of turkey hunting....

I wish everyone luck and hopefully the warm temps will be short lived! I am ready to follow the rules and hunt smart...I hope that in years to come that there will be less ignorance in the spring woods and fields. After turkey hunting for 15 years I have come to realize that it is not filling the tag...its about enjoying the time while you are out there!

Maybe you are like me....somedays you hunt hard, know the birds, and have used your head...yet come home empty only to hear from someone that can not run a call, didn't scout, and really has no idea what they are doing killed a bird...While many of us have hopes of opening day...just remember that all the time that has past and all the thoughts we have had about what might happen are just around the corner...it is amazing how long we wait, how hard we try, and how fast it is here and gone....Somedays you can spend hours in the field....and others it only takes a few minutes...

Your spot may not be as good as the next guys, your call might sound a little better than them on a call.....but do not forget about all the little guys out there who would love to get out in the woods and carry a gun then go to the local store to get a sandwich and coke! Let the turkeys make your days good and make the little hunters feel important...

Some will never let their ego down to trully enjoy the sounds of spring...Don't forget while your out there about all the ones who are not able to make it anymore and those who are in situations that don't allow them to go!

Good Luck!

You nailed it, nice post. Seems like the older I get, the more it is about the experience and time spent with lifelong friends than it is about filling the tag. That is just a bonus!!!

Amen! It's about the whole experience not just the kill. It's the woods comming to life at first light and the anticpation when an owl hoots and straining your ears to hear a gobble when that first crow cuts loose. Its good ethics and sportmanship and treating your quarry with respect. It's about tricking that bird and making him gobble and being a little bit sad when you look down at that beautiful ol' gobbler lying there never to gobble again. I may be a sentimental old coot but that's what turkey hunting means to me. Good luck and hunt safe, Tom

Good job, Well said. For me the fun is listening to a big tom thunder from the roost right as the sun is coming up. I think it is the prettiest sound I've heard next to my daughter;s first cry when she was born. Good luck this year.

IMO people who hunt just for the kill are missing what its all about in the first place. I will admit I get disappointed at times, but not very often because I know I am lucky just to get to enjoy a day outdoors.

I meant to also say....its that time of the year that people start calling you just to see whats going on and beat around the bush about hunting...don't mind taking the freinds and kids out but hate LEACH HUNTERS! They are never around to scout, work on food plots, bush hog, etc..etc...but they come out in the spring and remind me of the ticks....they just find me!!!!!!!!! ....Read the better or worse post....should be a good tool to use if everyone will be honest on what they are seeing and hearing...its not like talking at the local gas stop! Will post pics of opening day turkey soon as get picks...20lbs, 1 1/8 spur, and 10" (Thick) beard,.... I am going to wait for the weather to cool down a little...
GOOD LUCK TO ALL
