Well after several tries in the last couple years me and my brother-in-law finally got lucky Friday and got drawn at the front of the line and got to turkey hunt at Fort Knox this weekend. Saturday was a bit cool but after some walking we found some gobbling birds. After that we had birds close for most of the day until quiting time but just couldn't put it together. Sunday morning we were there real early and they started gobbling on the roost. We set up about 200 yards apart. There was 3 birds gobbling about 150 yards from me down the small ridge I was on. Not long after daylight a hen came flyng through the woods and landed about 40 yards from me. She then walked by me at about 15 yards and I did a double take because this hen had a beard. It was only about 3 to 4 inches and thin but she definately had a beard. All this time there was 2 gobblers just out of sight gobbling. I ended up spooking them and one of them flew and landed about 15 yards from my brother-in-law. Alittle luck doesn't hurt sometimes. It was a nice bird 22lbs 11 inch beard 1 1/4 inch spurs. After my mess I could hear another bird gobbling in the distance once in a while so I made my way closer to him. Got set up and called a little and he slowly came to check me out. 20 1/2 lbs 8 inch beard 1 inch spurs. Sorry its not the best pic in the world.
