What phase do you think the toms will be in come next Saturday??? Do you think they will be workable early...mid-morning...afternoon?? Will they be henned up so bad they won't even work???

Looks like hens are already nesting around here. Lots of single birds out early, and gobblers searching mid to late morning. Have not seen any gobblers hened up yet. If you get on a bird early, your in good shape. If not, hang close to strut zones by mid morning or troll and make one gobble if you can. Very little gobbling this past weekend though.

I haven't been out yet (work is killing me). I did see two toms strutting with about 10 hens this morning on the way to work. That was in Clark Co. Hopefully some of those hens are nesting when next weekend rolls around.

I've hunted northern Tennessee 4 days in the last week. Birds are henned up tight. Gobbling good from the roost, then flying down with hens, and spending all day with them. The birds I'm watching here in ky. are flocked up all day.
With the birds bunched up, and very little foilage yet, I would say the first part of the season may be tough. The hunting will get better as the season progresses. IMO

I have seen single hens while driving this week. Saw one today at about 530 pm. All alone at the edge of the field. Been seeing them flocked right before roost. Who knows

hunted tennessee on sunday close to Ky line. One bird gobblin on the roost. When he flew down he was with hens. Got on a bird around 9:30 that came to a hay field alone. My friend ended up moving and spooking him. As we were leaving saw a lone tom out in a field strutting on posted property. We stopped in the road an in a few minutes 5 hens, 3 more longbeards and 6 jakes walked out into the field. 2 toms were strutting, the rest were chasing jakes. It was an awsome sight.
we scouted in ky in the afternoon. Saw 2 different single hens out in fields by themselves, one longbeard with 5 hens, 4 hens by themselves.
My predictions are that a lot of turkeys are gonna die on Saturday. I only hope that my hunting party and myself can contribute to the count. Good luck everyone.

I heard that. If they haven't experienced it then people just can't understand and appreciate it. Myself on the other hand...:). I've been ready since January 31st. Its been a long time coming. And I got a feeling this week will be just as long as the last 2 1/2 months. How about that season countdown CEO? You around here still?

From my many years of turkey hunting I can be sure of 2 things. 1... Every day of season is different. 2... Every farm is different. I seen many days when I hunted hard all morning only to find out that the birds were henned up severely bad.... only to talk to a guy who hunted just across the road who was packing out a bird that said he had 3 longbeards come running in to the call with no hens seen all day. I have hunted henned up birds one day, then kill one of the same birds the next day who came in right off the roost. I can guarantee this.....Every single day of season there's a longbeard who is love sick and lonely and will work the call like no other bird you've ever seen. A man's just got to find that bird. The key to success is to have a very large farm to hunt with multiple flocks of birds or have several smaller farms to hunt and do what I call farm hopping. I've yet to have hunted a single day of my turkey hunting life where i've put in a good long day in the field and failed to get on at least 1 workable bird. Not to say I'm successful each day, just that I can get on a workable bird and either get him killed for myself, for someone else, or have the hunt spoiled by some reason (cows, dogs, work, other hunters, ect...) Best of luck to all who wish to challenge the tremendous eye sight, hearing, and natrual instincts of the ever elusive wild turkey.

I've got my fingers crossed that there will be a few birds in Edmonson county that are in the "Dying Phase". It's my favorite phase of the spring turkey season!!!

I figure that this season will be like last...toms will be henned-up until 10:00 or so then they be workable. I've noticed in the last 2 weeks serveral hens coming out by alone between 11:00 and 1:00, my guess is they're looking for nesting sites. HOPEFULLY, them ole' long beards will getting lonely.:D

I think saturday will be a great day. I went out yesterday morning and heard a ton of beards before flydown. Two birds stayed hot until after 9. Pollcat the thing is that most people dont have the luxury of having 5 different farms to hunt. I totally agree with you that finding a hot brid is that ticket, however if you only have a few hundred acres, you'd better not spook the birds you have trying to find one hot one.

This morning I heard several gobbles. Sure was chilly around here this morning. I heard one gobble right before I left about 10 till 9 this morning. While I was on the way home I saw several out in a big green field I went by to fast to see how many were gobblers but I know one was blowed up like a balloon.

I'm with you turk, I think it will be great this season. The key will be the woods, just like it was with deer last season. All the acorns have kept the turkeys in the woods this year, so that is where I will be hunting.
