Taking my boy (soon to be 14) for the Sat/Sun quota. Staying with another dad/son pair. Should be fun. Looks like storms & rain until Sat AM and then cool and dry. I'll let you know how it goes.
Another friend and my oldest son (17) are in the 2nd quota on next weekend. Should be a good time too.

Three of us are drawn for the 2nd quota hunt. My bro in law is coming in from Eastern KY. I live here in Murray. It might be nice to meet up with some of you guys and share tall tails and/or a tall cold drink.

Well, sorry for the delay about last weekend.
Sat: Terrible after the Huge storm Fri nite. Birds everywhere and nowhere. A few tree gobbled but way down in the woods. Tried to play the Turkey Aerobics hiking up and down hills, but no toms wanted to play.
Sun: Great weather! Sunny but cold (32); Initially set up on an elevated field in the woods, but had 8 toms gobbling across the road. Closest one was the hottest. We hurried to the next field over and hugged the opposite field edge to the far back. Set up and put out a hen. Everybody still gobbling. I clucked a couple and was double gobbled! My boy and I were pumped! Gave it a few minutes and I even had a younger bird coming from behind us (not gobbling) from about 100 yds out. Didn't tell my boy as I wanted him to focus on the big boy out front. The big flew down and was quiet for a short while. I clucked and he doubled gobbled just on the other side of the field (about 60 yds). We couldn't see him as the crown on the field must be 4' - 5'. He gobbled a couple of times and had the other turkeys in the area gobbling too. Well, we ALL heard a truck coming down the gravel road and ALL the toms went quiet. He stopped at our field, shut his door and owl hooted. All quiet!!! He gets back in his truck and drives away. Our tom is gone. He gobbles to my clucks and walks away gobbling.
So close and yet so far...
Me, my oldest boy and my hunting buddy are hunting this weekend's quota. Hope to bump into you (but not in the woods).

tough break! I'd like to outlaw the making of owl hooters. I think that would make us all a little happier!!

That is LBL for you. Had the same thing happen a couple years back. At LBL, sometimes it is success just to say you worked a bird there.
