Could anyone reccomend a mouth call strictly for competition purposes? I want to get into to competing in calling competitions. Please include the brand, and name of call. I just one that sounds as realistic as possible.

Don't know if it will help you or not because I have no clue what you look for in a competition call but I bought the "4 Aces" from K&H and there is one call in there that is the best sounding mouth call I own. I can't tell you the number on it because it's wore off. The only thing I can tell you is that it has a "bat looking" cut on the top latex. You can get the high notes as well as the raspy hen sound. I'm no expert..never claimed to be. I just know what this call sounds like. Good luck on your quest in competition calling!!!

i have had the chance to hunt with some of the best callers some even holding national titles ...MOST ALL build their own calls mass produced calls are made out of large frames which causes alot of air flow problems most callers use calls with smaller frames amd very little or NO tape on the calls (OUCH gives me goose bumps thinkn of that metal frame on my teeth) i make my own calls after being shown how to do such..i have that MADD call maker which i dont think is marketed anymore but others have similar set ups.. a good tube call in my books sounds as good as any mouth call ...esp when you back away and listen from a distance...

You may want to try a Woodhaven. A little on the pricey side.

The big guys build their own or atleast cut their own. Also, none of them use just one call to make all those sounds. They may yelp and cut on one, but they'll purr on another, and kee kee on yet another. We're sponsoring a guy from NC now and he'll be blowing some of our calls along with some he builds himself. He's also gonna start competing in some of the friction contest using our slate.

Murphy's out of TN makes some good dia calls
Woodhaven makes some good dia calls
Lausman makes great friction calls (Owentown Kentucky)
Cane Creek and Final Roost are not bad if you find one that is right for you....
I think is more the caller than calls ....but once you get it...it does not hurt to go with a few calls that are above average...good luck

I don't known if it is the one you have but I had a screaming hen IV from K&H that I thought sounded really good. It seems like the quality of their calls has taperred off the over the past few years. I have bought I would imagine around ten of the same ones and none of them sound as good as the first did. It had a bat shape, as you speak of, and a smaller piece of latex protruding on one side.

Yeah that is it. I don't know how to describe it but if you look at one it has a half moon opening on one side and on the other side it has the start of a half moon w/ a small piece sticking out and also the one in the middle. I had that call forever and it finally tore up. I haven't found one that sounds as good as the first. It seems like they make the middle a little shorter now and it isn't near as raspy. I wish I could find one made just like the first. Preston Pittman makes some really good calls but they are kinda hard to blow because their latex is really thick and I have always had to switch out the matrial that holds the call (don't know what it is called) it is too stiff for me. Preston Pittman calls are what I started out with.

Try any or all of the Woodhaven Signature Series calls. Each of the Signature Series calls are hand built by one of their "Sting Team" calling members. Matt Van Cise and Jim Pollard have combined to win the last 5 Grand National Titles as well as the last three World Champion Titles. Billy Yargus and Van Cise have one two of the last three US Open Titles as well. Woodhaven also offers a line of Comp specific calls. They are mostly split v calls, which sometimes can make it hard to kee kee on, but their is a comp or sig. call in their line for every style of caller and every call needed on the stage. As far as uses, the Yargus, Pollard, and Crabtree sig calls would be good for about all of the calls needed on stage. The Van Cise would be great for Cutting and Yelping and if you can push it, it will Kee Kee great. The McGraw sig call is awesome for clucking, yelping, and kee kees. All of these calls are hand built by either Mike Pentecost(owner of Woodhaven) or the guy who's name is on the call. They are pricey, but if you go with any call that is not "mass produced" ie. Knight and Hale, MADD, Primos, Quaker Boy, etc. will cost more. If you look, Knight and Hale's Ultimate Hunting Team line of mouth calls(which I love) cost more than their regular line of calls. As stated earlier, alot of pro callers build their own, as do the Woodhaven pros, but if they get someone else to build them, they really cost. Good luck.
