Ok i have a question, yesterday evening in the field where i hunt there were 5 gobblers and about 15 hens. Three of the gobblers were wing to wing strutting the whole time and the other two were off to themselves also strutting but seperated. When one of the toms that was by itself would get anywhere close to the 3 they would run it off. So which would be the boss because if one of the three was the boss why was he in the pack of three. And also the other day another gobbler not one of the five was harrasing a hen and she finally laid down and he would not breed her he just kept strutting around her in circles, finally she got up and kept pecking at his feet, this went on for about 20 minutes, has anyone ever seen this kind of activity??? Thanks...

I would say not too long ago all 5 of those gobblers traveled together at some point. The 2 that were strutting by themselves probably got their butts beat by 1 if not all 3 of the other strutters not too long ago. They've established the pecking order and those 2 aren't in it. They would have had to of been part of the group at some point because those other 3 would not have tolerated them being that close to the hens they were courting otherwise. Sooner or later 1 of the 3 will establish breeding rights and the other 2 will watch over the breeder or leave to find their own harem. When season rolls around if the 2 loners are still around they should be pretty easy to call in.This is all just my own opinion but I hope I helped a little bit. Good luck this year!!!!!:)
