This makes me sick even talking about it. My uncle has a piece of ground that he hunts on with road frontage full of turkeys. Sunday morning he was scouting early watching a tom strutting and some hens about 100 yards from the road. He knew that everyone driving up and down the road could see them so he thought about spooking them, but he didn't want to bother them. He walked over the hill to check out another field when he heard a rifle shot! he ran over the hill and noticed the tom flopping! With no sign of the truck it was was already gone! He kept the bird not wanting it to go to waste, 22 pounds, 11'' beard, and 1 1/8 spurs! A very nice bird! It makes me sick knowing that people do this for pleasure! i hope that guy sleeps good at night! I guess there is nothing you can do about it. I'm just confused on why someone would want to do that! He needs that dang rifle bent over his head!

i understand him not wanting the bird to go to waist.but if a co would have seen him with the bird he probably would have had a hell of a time convinceing him of what happened being the a--hole that shot it was long gone.

I agree. Although it may be a waste, he should have not kept the bird. If he was caught with the bird, he could lose his gun, or even his truck. You would have been better off reporting the situation and hopefully the gamewarden could track the guy down. If the a**hole did it once, he sure wont think twice about doing it again. I once knew a guy that got caught shooting turkeys over a bait site and he lost his truck.

Just a question...If he had called the CO and had him to investigate, what would the CO do with the bird?

Just a question...If he had called the CO and had him to investigate, what would the CO do with the bird?i would say that if he could have convinced the co as to what had really happened he probably would have gave him the bird.or he might have kept it for evadence in case he caught up with whoever shot it.

In my experience its a waste of time to call the CO anyway. They have buddies around here that do as they please, while the rest of us do the right thing.

Me and my buddy had a similar situation happend to us, but with a deer in in bow season. We called the CO and he didn't even come out to check it out. He just told us to keep the deer. I know those guys are busy, but we need them to help us ethical hunters out.
