http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e3/nontypical2002/100_0045.jpgWe used the pretty boy and pretty girl set up along with a jake and a feeding hen. We had a large flock of about 30-40 hens and 3-4 toms in the mix. There were 3 of the toms that got into one heck of fight...they were jumping up and trying to spur each and just carrying on. All of a sudden we heard what sounded like a 300# turkey gobble off to our right. I peeked out of the blind and across the field about 50-75 yards comes 5 longbeards running to our set up. They were running and gobbling at the same time. I leaned over to my son and told him what was coming. He looked out the front window of the blind and here they come. My son said " oh gosh dad there they are" they all 5 came right up to pretty boy and were bobbing and weaving trying to get him to move. I told my son to pick one out and shoot it..he said he was trying but they were moving too much. The 5 toms were fight purring and one was even trying to go into strut in between picking a fight. My son kept saying he was shaking so bad he couldn't shoot...I told him to relax and just squeeze the trigger when he was on one. This went on for about 25-30 seconds and they grew tired of no response from pretty boy so they all started to leave...I said " oh Logan" because I thought his chance just walked away. Out of desperation I whistled and the bird in the back turned around and came back to our set up. I told my son to shoot and he siad make him stop so I whistled again and the tom froze and I said shoot him and he dropped in his tracks. My son and I hugged and we hugged some more and I told him how proud I was of him. We walked out to see what kind of turkey he'd just taken. The tom weighed 21# with a 10.25" beard and he had 1" spurs. I told my son he did everything right in waiting for the shot that he was sure of and that he didn't just shoot into the whole group of tom's when they were so close together. I look back at it and can only imagine what was going through his mind...I get excited when 1 tom comes let alone have 5 of them 15 yds away from you carrying on. This was my son's 1st turkey hunt. He is 7 yrs. old. He did tell me that when the adult season gets here that he will let me shoot 1st since he's already got one that way I have the chance to catch up with him....
