You bet! They were tickled pink! I sent them an e-mail from home around 7AM today. By the time I arrived at work they had already returned the e-mail with a huge atta boy for the Bluegrass Sportsman's League. What you all did last night, purchasing the equipment so this school could join the archery program, is a great example of "giving back to the sport". I think many other clubs will follow your example over the next year.

Thank you!
Roy Grimes

That's great. I have told a lot of people today about what happened. I honestly think that is the most important thing our club has ever done. Allowing the shooting sports into a Fayette county shool is HUGH.
Actually the schools are not that bad. I know of one that had the NWTF as part of their career day last year. The NWTF booth was the hit of the day. The big problem in this area is 5% of the population wanting to mandate "their" opinions on the other 95%. Again, thanks for your effort and let me know if we can help.

OK, guys. I've read between the lines and suspect that the Bluegrass club has agreed to buy bow equipment for a school named Beaumont????

What is required if a club wanted to do something in their area? Is this in a grade school, middle school, or high school? How much equipment and expense are we talking about here? Are the manufacturers on board with the program? Fill in the details please.

Just a suggestion, but why not sell a archery permit to help fund the program??? Not only would it fund the whole state, but will also help keep track of the number of Kentucky bowhunters.

The "Archery in Kentucky Schools" pilot is going GREAT! Thanks to the generosity of the Pulaski Co. Bowhunters and Bluegrass Sportsman's League, the Pilot is now 22 schools. Another school, Anderson Co. Middle School is already "bought in" the program for this fall by the Anderson Co. Sportsman's Club.

Thirty-nine educators attended the 2-day NAA Level I training last week. Rod White, Olympic Gold and Bronze Medalist and Lloyd Brown--Olympic Archery coach presented the trainig. The schools are implementing the 2-week PE archery class this spring. We expect 3,00-5,000 kids to go through the pilot program. We hope to expand the program to include 120 of KY's 213 middle schools next school year. Extreme, I hope your school joins the program next year? We already have nearly 2 dozen more schools waiting to get in.

If a club or organization wants to sponser their favorite Middle School (6-8th grade) they can do so by providing the $2,100 for the equipment kits (11 Genesis Bows, 5 DZ XX75 arrows, 5 Target Butts, Equipment case, and floor quivers).

More than 15 states have already inquired about what we're doing. We hope to present the 2-week course to 50,000 middle schoolers every year starting next year.

If any of you represent a club that would like to help with the equipment let me know at work e-mail: roy.grimes@mail.state.ky.us

Sounds good DC, as for WHMS, it will depend on whether or not we get a new PE teacher. Keep up the good work and we will catch up from the rear one of these days......Rick.

RH,
We can maybe help this along. It might be a good idea for a couple of folks from your school to make a "field trip" to Ratcliff when they begin their archery class? Or Lebanon, Trigg County, etc.? This way certain folks can see how much fun the students (and teachers) have learning about archery. Also, we can provide on-site help the first day of the class if need be to support the PE teacher.

If you're interested in the field trip, let me know and I'll provide dates. Your school should be an early part of this program--the area is a hot-bed for archery interest and with you on staff the school has a huge advantage.

The Blugegrass State Games "Archery in Kentucky Schools" event isn't confirmed yet but officials are interested and we are planning. I haven't forgotten your offer to help officiate.
