I don't archery hunt, but I'm looking forward to October!
I'm so glad they are having 2 fall turkey hunts this year.

I've never tried to do the fall, anyone have any good suggestions on how they do it?
Do you always bust them up? or do you like to sit up in a "known" travel path?
Responses will be appreciated, Mike Dawes

Didn't used to be a fan of fall hunting, but I seem to like it a little more each year. I don't do the bust thing though, can't bring myself to scare the crap out of a flock of turkeys on purpose. Not to mention there is usually other hunters in the area after other game, & they probably appreciate not hearing me hootin & hollerin. Got some decent response last year to kee-kee runs & lost yelping (hens), main thing is we were in a good location with plenty of turkey sign & food. Haven't figured out what to do with toms, I've had a tough time finding them in fall.

I know everyone is thinking deer right now. But I wanted to bring this out again. What do you personally do in the fall?

I'm going to observe them while deer hunting and set up my doghouse blind near their travel route if they get in a pattern. I learned last year I'm not going to have any success trying to kill one from a treestand, lol! They look up.

Scouting is the key. The birds have travel patterns they follow almost daily, and ambushing works very well. Early and late you can locate them with flock talk near roost sites. Once they are travelling, they're tough to get to come over. Kee-kee runs are excellant at any time of day.
Flock busting works on those travellers that you can't coax. You need to be aggressive enough to scatter them in various directions, but don't send them to the next county, either. Once you've busted them, sit as close to where they took off from as you can, and call. Don't wait very long at all to start. This is a great time to use several different calls so that you sound like several birds, and you try to make flock talk. Mix in alot of purring and kee-kees, and answer the real yelps, especially the raspy ones.
Find the roosts and the feeding areas, sit down, be quiet and get ready to fry turkey! Best way I know.

I like to mimic what the birds do. If they cluck then I cluck, if they kee kee, then I kee kee. I have called gobblers in with a gobbler yelp. I usually start out with a lost call to let them know a lonely turkey is around. Birds will respond from a long distance. I sit in my blind and wait, then miss when they show up.
