In a manner of speaking. George Wright did a radio-collar study on turkeys in W. KY some years back. Some of those birds were taken.

I killed a banded bird in Henderson County on the Sloughs WMA in 1990 or 1991, he was released 7 years earlier as a jake. He weighed 20 pounds and had 11 3/4 inch beard, 1 inch spurs, very sharp.

I killed one in Tennessee several years ago. The band goes with me on every single hunt, on my tube call lanyard.

Ril- Do you care to tell me how you made that tube call, and what you made it out of. I have tried for some time to make one out of a film cannister, and a pill bottle; but both didnt turn out so good. The pillbottle turned out better. I can get some sound out of it, but im not so sure its a turkey sound. More of a... cow that just 7 year old trying to play the flute. :D

There are several companys that make tube calls, but I'll have to look up which ones. My father used one for years.

Here one I found on the net.
http://www.nwtf.org/Spring_Tips-2006/z_Contents/tips_tubecalls.html
To make your own tube call, follow these simple tips:
Materials:
1. Pill bottle, with snap-on cap, 35mm film canister, a nickel snuff can, or experiment with tubes of different diameters.
2. Powderless latex gloves
3. Sharp knife or razor blade
4. Scissors
5. Ice pick
How to make it:
1. With a sharp knife, cut off the bottom of the canister or bottle, or carve a hole. The larger the hole the greater the volume.

2. Cut a half circle in the lid.
http://www.nwtf.org/Spring_Tips-2006/z_Contents/Images/PhotoThumbsRevised/tube_cuts_top_th.jpg
3. Then, cut a 3-inch by 2-inch strip of latex.
4. Place the latex over the top of the canister so it lines up with the hole in the cap, creating a thin gap between the edge of the latex and the center cut of the lid. The cap will hold the latex in place.

5. Stretch or loosen the latex to get the desired sounds.
6. A heated ice pick works well to create holes in the plastic pill bottle. You can have fun making calls with different volume levels.
http://www.nwtf.org/Spring_Tips-2006/z_Contents/Images/PhotoThumbsRevised/tube_final_th.jpg
How to use it:
1. Put your lower lip on the gap between the edge of latex and cut across the tube lid.
2. Push the air over the stretched latex.
3. To change pitch or tone-increase or decrease the pressure of your lower lip, and increase or decrease airflow over the latex. Remember to move your jaw up and down on the call. http://www.nwtf.org/Spring_Tips-2006/z_Contents/Images/PhotoThumbsRevised/tube_calling_th.jpg

Trust me Dave, in the hands of a practiced caller, there is NO more realistic sounding call;)

Feedman,
I killed a banded, radio-collared bird back in 2000 in Hopkins Co. Pretty neat deal. Talked with Mr. Wright about the informatioin they had on the bird when it was trapped compared to when harvested. The bird that I had taken was killed nearly 2 miles from the trap site.
