I know we have a few people on here that have them on their trucks, i just want to know if they made a difference in gas mileage when installed from the stock muffler. I have a 5.3L in a Silverado and I put straight pipes on it and didnt get squat for any more miles/gallon. I have gotton tired of the sound of my straights and was going to look into buying either a 40, 30 series, or the super 40 and putting on it. I know it wont be as loud, but still sound great, but right now my bigest concern is squeezing a few more MPG out of my Z71. Can anyone be of any help here?

It shouldn't make any noticable difference in mileage. You might notice a small increase if you open up the intake some with the exhaust. You might be able to mess with the timing some as well, but there's just not much you can do to get any significant increase.

I have a 40 series on my car but I've never heard of any muffler helping gas mileage.

My Z71 just cranked out 18.7 mpg over a 2200 mile trip, with everything stll factory. I'm satisfied.:) Eat your heart out Pooty.

I added the Flo Muff on my F-150 with a K&N filter charger and saw a slight increase in HP, but a unnoticeable diff. in gas mileage. Both the intake and the Filter claim to boost fuel efficiency, but that is still to be determined. I do like the sound Flo's though. I also like the way the intake screams when sucking in more air when the pedals on the floor.

The orignal 40 is not going to be a whole lot different than what you have with straight pipes right now. Still going to be loud.

Everything I've read about the Flowmasters say that you'll lose low end torque with an otherwise stock setup. Shouldn't be any worse than the straight pipe setup you have now though.

I'd like my truck to be a little louder. I miss that deep rumble. Just haven't brought myself to drop that kind of $ for nothing more than to change the sound of the exhaust. Not really big on really loud all the time anymore either. I would have to find one that just rumbles when you get into the gas.

I had a 50 series on my V6 Tacoma ( laugh it up) and it sounded really good for a V6. Almost V8ish. The 40 series is much louder if I recall. I *think* a buddy of mine has the 50 on his Z-71. It sounds great, not loud at all unless you really get on it and even then it's very tame. I'd say if you liked the straight pipes and just want to get a real nice rumble that isn't too much, get the 40.

I had dual 40's on mine, and ended up taking them off because of the noise. Actually got more power when I took them off.

It's all about the backpressure.

i have a 40 series on my 4.3 L s10 truck and its sounds great. i didnt dual it though, i just had them install the muffler and run it out just like a stock exit. sounds like a small v8 until about 2500 rpms then v6 sound comes out in it. i picked up a little bit of hp and tq but not much. i also have k&n filter in the truck and that helped a little on the hp much nothing other than that. with all that being said i ordered a metal spiral shaped device called the Tornado(i think) i put it in my stock intake tube and picked up noticeable hp and some tq and also to my suprise about 2 mpg(if i can keep my foot out of it ) I used to get 15.5 and i now get 17.8 mpg. thats just my 2 cents worth though.

if and when i drop the LS1 v8 down in this truck i will really have to watch my mpg and look for those blue lights lol:D

I heard that the makers of the Tornado had a lawsuit filed against them for making false claims about fuel mileage gains.

Those things (Tornado) have been disproven by Car&Driver, Consumer Reports, and several others. They do nothing except make you light in the wallet. Some of them actually made performance and MPG worse.

Bowhuntin.. did you dyno your truck before and after for the hp and torque gains or is it simply the "seat of the pants" dyno testing?

i got some gains by clockin my 0 60 time. before i installed the tornado i was hitting 60 in bout 7.2 average w/ muff and filter. after i clock i was averagein 6.9. 2 tenths faster. now these arent 100 % accurate but close enough for me. i have never had the truck on a dyno and probly never will but all i know is that i figured mpg went up almost 2 mpg. some of yall may not believe it but thats what i got out of it. it said i would get 20% more hp but i knew when i bought that i wouldnt even get half of that. i just want the mgp improvement and i got some. so the product worked for me.

I see alot of you are familiar with a 40 Series, But which one? Super 40? Original 40? Delta 40? From what i hear its makin me want to ditch the idea of gettin one.

BTW, thanks for all of the replys.
