I just completed one of my D.A.R.E. culmination ceremonies today and from me promoting hunting, fishing and the outdoors so much the 5th graders all chipped in and bought me a gift certificate to Bass Pro shops. It really surprised me. Hope they like the outdoors as much as I do. This is part of the reason I am working on the Archery in schools programs here for Northern Kentucky.
Congratulations, sounds like you are doing some great work.

ksp, that is awesome. I have thought if getting into something like that to promote something other than video games and TV to kids. Keep up the great work!

Ksp sorry this isnt meant to Hi Jack your thread BUT
How many of you remember the CO Joe Jacobs AKA Jolly Joe
he used to go to most every school and talk, teach, introduce youngsters to our sport...those were some of my very first dealings with the outdoors from a hunting aspect..

I am furtunate enough to be in some of the schools here in Kenton, Boone, and Campbell counties but mostly Kenton county schools. In the 10 years I have been here I think only one year in 1998 did a CO educator come to Lincoln Elementary Schools in Dayton Kentucky. Since then nothing.....If a CO would like to PM me I can make arrangements for a visitation. I know alot of the schools here are interested in the science aspect of wildlife. Also since last year they have been sharing a classroom with the US Navy for a program called NAVOPS not bad but I know when I go to the schools students have asked me about hunting and fishing. I have to keep it level with them but you would not believe the striking curiosity they have when they ask me about the outdoors. Especially when they ask if I hunt animals and then I remind them about the history of our forefathers hunting to for food and a time when McDonalds was not around. Then I progress to tell them about the enjoyment and satisfaction of seeing wildlife and sometimes when I am out there I feel like I am at peace. When they hear that they are just amazed!
Too much now adays is left to TV and Video games. Both are not bad but I think children can be desensitized to what is real and what is made up.
Congrats and I applaude you they picked the perfect guy for the part kids are the furture of our sport..
