Just got a new remington 870 express super mag, was wondering if you guys could give me a good choke@ammo combination. Was thinking of getting a comp-n-choke and some remington hi velocity #6's in 3 1/2. All opinions are greatly appreciated. Don't want to waste a lot of money on something that is not what it's expected to be.

ww,
I have the same gun. I use the extra full turkey choke that came with the gun and Hevi-shot # 5's. It will kill a turkey out past 40 yards.

I have the same gun I use a remington hevi shot ckoke with hevi shot 3 1/2 #5's and have had no problem killing birds as far as 55 steps. I mean graveyard dead.

Kicks 665 seems to shot a variety of winchester shells good...I personally like a 650 Kicks with hv #6 3inch in my 870....My gun is not 3 1/2...I would try looking at what size shot you want ot shoot and then start selecting a choke from there...Call comp n choke or kicks....they are the same company just different chokes....tell them what you want to shot 3, 3 1/2 then 4, 5, or 6....buy it directly from them...if you are not happy send it back....but they will get it right the first time...tell you which choke for what ever shell you want...they are big winchester fans....Can not go wrong with the winchester extended range shells! Give them a try...people like me had to pattern gun with lead...now there is all this new stuff out and it is extremly good...you just can not choke it the same...

FWIW, I shoot the same gun and use a Primos "Tight Wad" (.660 constriction) choke tube w/3 1/2" Remington #4 shot shells. It patterns good on the board and a turkey has never survived a shot yet.

I'm using the combo of a Hasting's compensator choke with 3" winchester supremes in a #5 shot. I did some patterning and i was impressed. I only shot from about 35 yards..I didn't step it off because i was in a hurry to get to work but it may have been closer to 40. At that range the targets looked like a dead turkey....a REALLY dead turkey!:D

This is not cheap, but IMHO is THE best choke and ammo for turkey I have ever tried.

A Rhino choke (for your 870 they recommend a 2" extended .660) and Nitro custom hevishot. Depending which you buy (the economy or all hevishot) patterns on average of 230-270 pellets in the kill zone (10" circle) at 40 yards.

I have this combo on an Xtrema with a Bushnell Holosite and it is wicked. I have a Kick's gobbling thunder on my mossy for a loaner now and it blows it away. Before anyone starts on how expensive it is- turkey hunting is one shot. This is not the place to skimp.

Here is a link and they sell the chokes and ammo at Uncle Lee's as well. make sure you look for the right numbers on the Nitro shot for your set up.

They sell the shells, too but don't have the Remingtons listed.

I am not saying this is the only way, just the best I have found and I patterned Hastings, Briley, Kicks, Rhino and several others and just about every type of ammo out there. Kicks would be my second choice.

Good luck

I have the same gun, and i use a full choke, 3" shells and #4 or #6 shot. I have never missed a turkey with this gun, and I have killed turkeys past 40 yards.

As for inexpensive, the undertaker will do the job just fine. I know several guys that use it including myself. I shoot a Rem. 870 wingmaster LC with #6 shot Win. 3" turkey load and at 30 yds., well I stopped counting after 120 shots in a turkey target.

Sometimes a product doesn't have to be expensive to do the job. This is one of them.

I use an undertaker choke, don't know the exact size. I'm also shooting an 870 mag. My gun patterns best with a 3'' #5 shot ( hevi shot). Tried 3.5'' and it just doesn't pattern as good.
