Has anybody tried the new Federal Hevi weight hevi shot yet? Just wondering how you liked it. Good, bad, ok? Looking to try some but havn't been able to find any yet. Still a little early for some of the stores around my area to start stocking their turkey hunting items. If I'm reading the Federal info right says its 35% heavier than lead which I think is heavier than the other brands of hevi shot. Seems like they were all 15% heavier than lead. hw

I tried it along with Winchester's Xtended shot last year. Although impressive, neither patterned as good as the Hevishot in the 3.5" loads. Did have trouble with the federal shells feeding through my 11-87, however. I have heard that the Fed shells are not sized as precisely as others.

Other than that, it is mean stuff for turkeys.

I have been a huge fan of Nitro shells for several years now. But, with the huge price increase they have had lately, I maybe making a change. I'm not sure I can justify $125 for a box of shotgun shells:(

The federal heavyweight has a flight control wad that should not be used with a wad stripping choke tube. People that use the correct tube seem to get decent results.

If I was to ever get off the Nitro train I am going to switch to the Winchester XR.

Yea I hear you guys. I'm a Nitro user myself. Since there's a few more options out there now thought I might try a couple and see how they do. Those dang Nitros are hard to beat. Not in price but performance. hw

I used the Briley .675 turkey choke to test all three. It's not a wad stripper. I didn't try the 3" loads -- some claim they pattern better.

Bottom line: When holding shots to a reasonable distance, any of the three along with the premium lead offerings will do the job nicely.

Yup!!!!!

Last year I could have killed one on an out of state trip opening day with an improved cylinder and a #7.5 dove load.....I ended up missing with a $6 Nitro that puts 300+ pellets in a 10 inch circle at 40 yards . 10 yards and in you better be on, stuff is like a bullit!!

Depends on how far out you will shoot a turkey...

If you only shoot to 40 yards 100s of thousands of turkeys have hit the ground with regular old lead!
