Just curious. I don't post on here much but read the post just about everyday. Just curious as to how long everybody has been chasing turkeys. Just from reading the post I know there are some turkey killin sons of guns on here. I'm 49 years old and this will be my 6th year. I've learned alot but have alot more to learn. Nothing like being schooled by an old longbeard. The past few years I've been fortuante enough to hunt Kansas, Kenutcky, Indiana and Michigan. I've been lucky and scored in every state but I will say these dang Kentucky birds are by far and away the toughest dang birds to hunt. I'm pretty much self taught as there arn't many turkey hunters around my neck of the woods. So how long you been at it? hw

Been chasing turkeys since 1997 season, didnt score until the 99 season.
Me and a buddy of mine started hunting turkey the same year.
neither of us had ever been in the turkey woods untill opening morning of the 97 season. My buddy and his dad got a double on our first trip.
Was a great hunt.

Started last year. Got one tom in the spring with a shotgun and one hen in the fall with a bow.
Been turkey hunting 11 yrs. Scored on my first jake when I was 9. It was actually taped by Quaker Boy Inc. and appeared on one of their videos. Pretty neat.

hunted lbl, alabama and many counties in ky
hunted with a grand national calling champ many times
helped a few youths get their first bird
had a mossy oak camera man tag along, had the founder of trebark call and want to do a hunt with a camera man in tow and almost worked out that real tree road trips was going to hunt last yr only to have a major rain storm
ruin the plans...
this is indeed one of the better season we're offered so if you havent tried it you just dont know what you've been missing

did you hunt with Bill Epherds? i know he did several youth hunts here in the state..i have spoken with him many times he actually tried to encourage me to do the calling contests..but to be honest id be committing a crime because the only judge that i try to impress is one i intend on throwing over my shoulder...
kyfowlplay had a get together one year for the local turkey hunters and one of the big names in quaker boys showed up ...it was a good time

I went out hunting Squirrels 4 years ago and had a flock of 20 or so fly over my head and then pitch down 30 yards in front of me. I watched them feed and communicate with eachother, ever since then I have been chasing them hard! I love those Turkeys.

I started in 1997 but I didn't kill a bird unitl 2000. So far I have killed a bird every year except last year. But in my defense I spent most of last season trying to get my firend his first bird, which I am happy to say he succeded!

Called in and shot my first turkey at age 12 in 1978 down in Pineapple, AL. Have hunted turkeys in KY since 1990 (1991?). Bagged my first KY gobbler in Clermont, KY back in roughly 1993. Thoroughly addicted.

My first spring turkey huntin' in Kentucky was '76, never saw or heard a bird. Sure wasn't many turkey or experienced turkey hunters back then.
Hunted four(4) seasons before I got my first Kentucky turkey in the spring of '79. Used an ol' Penns Wood twin reed diaphram , 12 Ga , 2 Oz of #6's at 42 steps. Seems like there was (56) turkey shot in Kentucky that spring.
Sure like to hear 'em gobble and "get in their face". Don't get no better.
This will be about my 38th year in the spring woods. Cannot remember whether I went in '67 or '68 the first time in Va. Seen a lot of spring sunrises since then. I have killed a few.

Started in 1995 and have loved every minute of it. The best part was that me and my brother took a double opening morning 2002. Then last year I called in a tom for him and two hours later he called in a tom for me. Can't wait for the season to get here so we can get out there again.

This will be my 7th spring chasing the birds. Dont get me wrong, i love deer hunting too, but man there is definatley something special about those gobblers. I dont know if its getting up early and watching the spring sun rise, or hearing the toms gobble their heads of to a lonesome owl hoot. Whatever it is, there is nothing in the world like it!

This will make 16 seasons for me. I killed one my first 2 seasons then went 5 years till the next one but I was hooked big time. I'm certainly not the best but NOBODY loves to turkey hunt more than me. I've even got my wife hooked on turkeys now. Tom

Started hunting turkeys at LBL in 84....was'nt too many anywhere else around this end of the state. Did'nt know what I was doing and made lots of mistakes. Went several years without killing a bird and even dropped out a year or two. Finally in 89 I killed my first bird in LBL....with just plain luck and wet leaves...I got close before daylight and he pitched down not 20yds from me. I killed my first bird outside of LBL in 92 in Graves Co. around Bell City. Since then I have taken at least one bird..occasionally two... every year since...either LBL or our place in Christian Co.. Killed birds in Iowa, Northern Missouri and Kansas as well .

Wide range of experience on here. It's obvious the one thing we all have in common regardless of our experience is our passion to hunt this bird. Seems like once you start you become obsessed with them. At least I did. This is always the worst time of year for a turkey hunter. Planning hunts, getting gear together, sighting in guns, practicing calls, watching videos, sure makes it tough on a guy. I got the fever bad!!! hw

Started hunting in the spring of 94 I believe, was hooked the first time I heard one gobble. I was only 13, use to have my mom drive me out and drop me off on the side of the road(my dad wasn't a turkey hunter). I would hunt as long as I could handle, or till I got a bird then would walk home. Got close to alot of turkeys, but never closed the deal till opening morning spring of 97. Had 2 birds come in hot, took one, and as it lay there, I thought to myself..."I finanly did it!!" Probably one of my most rewarding hunting moments to date.
