I just bought a used Mossberg 835 with a Comp-N-Choke tube (XXX Full .670). Any ideas on what shells shoot best with this combo? Thanks!

I'm not sure about that particular choke brand, but I won a camo Mossberg 835 with the factory full choke at a DU dinner in Ark about 8 years ago and decided to try it one turkey season a couple of years later. I found that 3 1/2" Winchesters Turkey loads (Size 6 shot) did NOT pattern well at all. I fiddled around with some other loads, but didn't find really any load that shot that great. I didn't try 3" shells though.
FYI, I ended up killing my best scoring turkey to date with it that first year at 25 yards, 23 1/2 lbs, 12 1/2" beard and 1 5/8 spurs, but a year of so after that, I missed one at 40 yards with it. I've since decided to stick with my "best" guns (i.e. those that I shoot well and have the most confidence in), so I retired it and it's now sitting in the closet.

try federal premium 3 1/2 #6.
shoots well in my 835
You will want to try several different brands, sizes, and shot sizes. Shotguns and choke combinations are much like snowflakes. No two are the same. This may be tad bit expensive to do unless you have some hunting buddies that will let you shoot some of their ammo, but the time spent going thru all of the trouble, will be well spent.

Winchester HV 3.5 inch #6.
That's what I'm using with the Moss/Comp'N'Choke set-up but with #4s. I'm going to try 3" shells this year too though because I'm tired of empty cartiges jamming.

The federal premiums seem to put more shot in the target, but the Winchesters HV shoot so much harder it seems. The number of pellets in the target is not that big a deal, so I use the Winchester HV's.

The 835 is a great gun and I feel that it will shoot any brand of shell better than the 870 will:D

Here is a pretty good shell I use in my 835. This is a 10 inch circle that was shot at a measured 40 yards. Think it will kill one?

I like winchester Hv but I have noticed the 3.5 jamming but I mean you shouldn't have to shoot twice right.

im with ribsplitter. in my 835 ulti mag i use federal 3 1/2 in. 4's and 6's. the 4's give a little tighter spread so i chamber a 4 and have a couple 6's to back it up.

Send the comp n choke back
I will have to disagree with that statement. I have one in my Remington 11-87 Super Mag and my 535 Mossberg. Both of these guns throw great patterns. As soon as I can get time to adjust on the sites of the 535, I will post some pics of what it can do.
As far as shells, I cannot belive that someone has not mentioned the Winchester Xtended Range. This is the only ammo that my turkey guns will be seeing for some time. Myself along with several friends bit the bullet (no pun intended) and made the switch from Supremes last year. What a difference that made. They are pricey at @ $30 a box, but they are worth every penny.

My old 835 shot Federal shells way better than any other brand in #4 shot with a TRUGLO Gobblestopper choke tube.
