When do the toms start to seperate themselves from the hens. While driving from Richmond to Owensboro this weekend, all I saw was small bachelor groups. Same thing in Mclean county, saw 2 LARGE toms all alone in the middle of a field.

Late fall, early winter.

The toms begin to seperate from the hens in early summer, perhaps even late spring( mid-June). Won't care much for the ladies until the days begin to get longer late Feburary and into March.

What the others said. That doesnt mean that you wont see some gobblers with hens at this time of year though. I saw a group of gobblers and hens mixed the other day.

It depends a lot on the area, but most of what the other guys said applies.

mostly, older toms will stay in bachelor groups almost year round. I've seen groups of toms throughout deer hunting. Ususally you'll see mostly just jakes with hens. Just what I've seen throughout the years. Now, this is not to say that a group of Toms won't end up in the same field as a group of hens/jakes. but as far as roosting together and such, mostly they are separate year round.
