I just got a new remington 870 express for christmas and got a hastings .660 turkey choke for the gobblers. What kind of shell should i shoot? I was told by a guy at the local gun store that a #5 shot 3 inch winchester works great with the combo i have. I am just looking for some more input b/c the employees of that store have a rep for being full of it.:D

Winchester HVs, 3" number 5s have been my drug of choice since they came out. I use a 1300 w/ a .655 Comp-N-Choke.

The Winchesters may not pattern as well for you as they do for me--every gun and tube combination is different--but they are great turkey ammo.

Federal and Remington turkey loads are also good, as is Hevi-shot and some of the other heavy non-toxics. I'd recommend trying several different makes and sizes of shot and see what works best for you.

Winchester HV #5's in either 3" or 3 1/2". You cant beat them...

well its #6 for me most all shots i have taken are within 20 yrds..
(knocking on wood) i have yet to have a bird walk away yet i like to have those few extra pellets..most of my birds are taken at the decoy so evena 20ga would do well

I shoot #5, Hevi-shot, 3 1/2 inch shells in my 870 and I use the extra full choke that came with the gun.

I shoot 3 inch #5 Federal in my mossberg for years with extra full choke. Have taken birds in the 50 yard range with this combo.
