What do you look for in scouting this time of year and as the year progresses toward spring?

I have found some scratching places where turkey have been eating acorns and beech nuts and also some tracks in various mud holes.

What else is there to look for? and Do turkeys roost in the same general area year round?

Most people scout too much and screw up their hunting before the season. IF you know the lay of the land ahead of time, and you know it holds turkeys, don't scout until April or at all. Maybe try and locate a bird going to the roost the night before the season opener, but don't apply any pressure to him by trying to make him gobble. Too birds are pushed away by early season foolishness. When one gobbles the first morning 100 yards away, you'll know where he's at.

Around march, look for scratchings. Dont put too much pressure on the birds though, you can run them out of an area. Watch fields during the evening and morning. Get up early and listen for gobblers; as well as in the evening.
