My Sako M39 has a nagging little problem - rear sight assembly keeps working itself loose. I've tried tightening the little bolt that holds it but it still will work loose after a while, even when I put some thread locker on it. Does yours have this problem? Only solution I can think of will be to buy a new rear sight assembly, unless you or someone else has some ideas.

I've never had that problem with my m39. I ended up selling it a year ago to pay off a speeding ticket my wife was nagging me about. Are you talking about the whole sight block thing around the barrel or just the ramp? If its the whole block, you might be better trading it off at a gun show and picking up another. I know where an m39 is for $100 right now. Let me know what you think. The fine guys at gunboards should be able to help you out better.

Yep it is the whole sight block thing that is working loose. They are held by a screw that keeps working loose. I may just buy a new sight block if I can find one and see if that fixes it. My M39 has a bore like a sewer pipe but still shoots great and has a sweet trigger, I'd hate to trade it off.

You will have to watch out for certian m39 barrels too. Some (tikkas I think) were actually m91 barrels. That said they're not as thick as a Sako M39 barrel for example.

Auk,
On some applications, regular thread locker (Loc-Tite: Blue) will shoot loose. You can try the Red Loc-Tite as it holds better, but makes disassembly a bear (has to be heated to 500' F) but'll hold like nobody's business. I use the Red Loc-Tite on my back-up rear sight on the Bushmaster I carry on duty. Ain't taken the sight off and don't plan on it, don't have to worry about it workin' loose either. In extreme cases, Loc-Tite makes a Green sleeve locking compound, forget disassembly with it though. If the Red will work, may beat tradin' the rifle off and if the Red don't work....bet money the Green will. Just thought I'd add my two cents worth....hope it helps!

Thanks, I'll try some of the stronger thread locker before I give up on that sight block.
