Alright, I know this will stir alot of opinions, but hey, that's what this board is for. I'm in the market for a new bow and I'm leaning towards one of the new short axle to axle bows. I want to use it for both hunting and some 3-D shooting. I'm also looking for a forgiving brace height (>= 7"). So what do you guys recommend? What have you had good luck with? I'm real partial to my Darton (hence the username), and have been eyeing their Magnum 33, but it seems not alot of shops carry Darton anymore. I'm open to suggestions at this point.

Talk about opening a can of worms!!! Guess it all depends on what you want to spend. I did the shopping thing a couple of months ago and ended up with a Martin. Felt it was what I needed, quick short and most of all QUIET. I liked the way a Parker felt in my hand, but it was going to drain my wallet. Good luck in your search.

Brian,
Well as you know each company has many options to offer the shooter..i have tried about all of them and like you a Darton is what i am shooting..i have not found another bow that seems to shoot as smooth fast and is as forgiving as my Maverick...
this bow has it all ...i am seeing more and more shops begin to carry Darton's.....my advice if it aint broke dont fix it STAY WITH DARTON

brian,
for the last 7 years I have been shooting an old wood limbed martin couger. Limb set finally got so bad that last year I HAD to have a new bow. I shot all the mathews bows, the new hoyt, three of the new bowtech's and a couple of pse's. The mathews are probably the smoothest, but the new hoyt is smoooooth, fast, quiet, and fairly forgiving. I believe it has a 7and1/2" brace height. Because of poor financial status on my part, I was forced to settle with the PSE, which has suprisingly been very good. In conclusion, all bow companies are making MUCH better bows than just a couple years ago. You would would be wise to choose a longer brace height, even if it means you have to buy a slightly longer bow.

I love my Parker UltraLite 35, wouldn't trade it for anything. They are worth checking out. I've also heard great things about bowtech bows.

DON'T BUY ANYTHING TIL YOU TRY A BOWTECH PATRIOT?? Honest this is great bow for what you are looking for. I shoot the Bowtech Extreme Solo but this new bow is better than mine just out the reports in the April 2002 issue of Bow Hunting World.

Darton,
I was looking for the very same thing last year, a short bow for hunting and 3-D. I end up buying the Mathews SQ2. It's the best hunting bow I've ever had. With a 8 1/2 brace height it is very forgiving and I shoot better than I ever have. Up in the stand last season it was unbelieveable how easy it was to move around and shoot without having to stand up. I could make shots I never could with my old bow.

Like they said, bows have came along way in the past few years.I was in your shoes a week ago and was leaning toward the Matthews bows but like someone else said $$$$ pushed me into a PSE Diamondback.Fast as heck at over 300fps surprisingly smooth and I've shot louder bows.I to have a Darton in the closet.

Get yourself a longbow and start having fun with it. I did about 6 months ago. There's nothing like it when you just look at that spot and hit it without thinking about how far or which pin to use. I haven't had this much fun shooting since I started about 25 years ago.

I've shot matthews mq-32 now since they came out.
The bow has smooth draw cam,8.5brace height, and pulls
74lbs with 80% letoff.Bowtech has one called mighty mite
which is 1/2 inch shorter than matthews but the brace
is,i think, 7 or 7.5,the bows are shooting speeds of
around 280 fps and are very forgiving.
Good Luck finding that bow.
