I posted a question here a few weeks ago and had good responses help. Thanks again for that. I'm going to meet him there at 1300 today, and he can tell me what I need to do. Nice free service offered by the State there.

I had a great time with him! He was very knowledgeable, answered all my abundance of questions, took time, walked the land with me, made suggestions, and we talked a little hunting too. I wish I would have known about this a long time ago, I think I can really improve my spread.
One of the things I need on my place is cover. He suggested several things. I also am going to have to get rid of my fescue (I knew already it is not good for the wildlife) and try to establish different cover. I also need to plant some trees for the future.
He volunteered his help anytime and also lots of info on state programs that might help toward paying for these improvements! I also learned what a lot of the different plants and trees were.
I am limited on the scale I can do things as my equipment is not big. I'm probably going to have to hire out some tractor/plow work, but he seemed to think that wouldn't be too hard to get done.
I'm excited about it anyway, and I think I can get a really nice place for years to come that my kids will really be able to enjoy. This is a great service!
Good to hear Hammer. I had Jason Plaxico come to my farm. He did the exact same thing, a very pleasant guy to work with. Another, is CSS Archer, all these guys seem to be cut from the same pattern. Good guys in my book.

Just a thought. Do all you guys take a minute to be sure the farmers that let you hunt know about these habitat programs?

It's my place, Larry. Not sure about the others, but I can do whatever I want (that is lawful of course).

Hammer,it's great you're looking at improvements yo your place. My point is a lot of land owners that don't hunt aren't aware of the programs that help eliminate fescue [good idea for livestock and wildlife]. Just my opinion but if more folks spent as much time assisting in habitat improvements [either information or sweat equity]as they do putting out deer feeders everyone would benefit.
