is it legal to look for sheds on state parks like on or around the bike and walking trails

You can look for them, but according to park regulations / KAR's, you can't take them from the park. A state park is a type of wildlife / habitat refuge, and you can't remove things from it ( even deer sheds) without the proper authorizations.

I have had similiar questions also regarding National Parks and the answer is the same. You can look for them, but you can't take them with you. The wildlife are considered a resource and protected. The Code of Federal Regulations states "any part thereof" when it comes to the animal. I've seen some good ones over the years, and believe me I've been tempted, but it's not worth it.

If I found a nice shed in such an area I would mark it's location, leave it be, and go seek authorization to remove it. I'd bet that some park managers wouldn't mind. Of course some might want it for themselves or for the park--in such instance I would just keep the location known only to myself and leave it for the rodents.
