I see you haven't generated much interest in forming a chapter. Have you tried advertising locally like flyers in the sporting goods stores? Rick

Daworz, The best way to get them to help you is to join them. They will help you by educating you so that you can implement the proper management practices on your property. Here is the website for more information. I gaurantee it will be the best $25 you will ever invest if you are serious about quality deer. The only gripe I have is the magazine only comes out 6 times a year. http://www.qdma.com/

I'm a member but mainly for the magazine. It's a great source of info. Where does the money go that the chapters raise? Does it just go into the education program it headquarters? Or do they actually help private landoners in cost sharing? Also do the provide money to public agencies to assisst in habitat management? I guess these would be questions better asked of QDMA, but since your trying to start a chapter I thought you might know.

That's a good question skindog. I have been a member for about 6 years, mostly like you, for the magazine, and to hear about all the latest Whitetail and food plot research. They are classed as a non-profit organization. I'll look in to it further and see if I can find some answers. I was looking over the latest issue last night and one thing was apparent - Not many Kentuckians are members, there is a grand total of 1 chapter. Other states have 15 or more chapters. I would like to see QDMA grow in our state. Any body have any ideas? I'm thinking about buying a few gift memberships for my hunting friends. By the way, the dues are going up to $30 for 2006, but if you renew before Jan. 1st you will still pay $25.

Guys,
Thanks for the interest. I just got off the phone with the RD with QDMA. We are shooting for a meeting date in Jan 06. It will take place in either Russell Springs or Somerset. Do you have any preference on where we meet or meeting dates? He is sending me some press releases to get in the local papers. I really feel that we can make this an outstanding and sucessful chapter.

I notice some questions about where the money goes. 25% of the net money raised goes to the local chapter. Most other organizations only give back 4%. They do offer some help on seed and other things. I am learning just like everyone else. I know they are getting a lot of good press in the hunting world. We will be meeting sometime in Jan. 06. If you have any thoughts or ideas I would be greatful to hear them. While Ky has produced some great deer in recent years, I feel we can do even greater things. QDMA can help guide us in the right direction. I know some want "BIG" bucks & others want to see more deer. I feel we can have both. Education of fellow hunters is the answer not bashing each other on disagreements. With everyone's involvement we can make this a great & successful chapter. Right now KY only has 1 chapter. I am trying to plant the seed to see great results grow.

Littleindian,
Your heart is in the right place. With that attitude I am sure you will be successful. Good luck and keep us posted on here of the meeting times. I am not quite from your area, but Somerset is only 40 minutes away. I would try to come over and do anything I can to help.
As for the "what happens to the money" questions, A large amount has been given in the form of grants to Universities involved in deer research. "QDMA recently submitted grants totaling nearly $100,000 to support three landmark research projects in Texas, Georgia, and Pennsylvania. QDMA currently provides financial assistance to projects at Auburn and U of Tenn." (from Quality Whitetails). They also have field education and youth recruitment programs. Membership has grown by almost 300% since 2000, to nearly 40,000 members. http://www.qdma.com/

Didn't actually know about it until this year. Saw a magazine down at the lodge and thought it was the most informative deer hunting mag I had ever seen. $25 is a bargain for that.

So now you will start the Quality Chapter?? Seems like a lot of people in that area would be interested.

For everyone that is interested we will be meeting on Monday Jan. 30 th. at 6:30 PM CST. The meeting will be held at Lake Country Outdoors (BP) in Russell Springs, KY. It is located on South US 127 approx 1.5-2 miles South of the Cumberland Parkway(Louie B Nunn). Dennis Campbell the Regional Director for QDMA will be there. While it may be in the Lake Cumberland area, it is a chapter for everyone that wants to be a part of it. While Ky has the reputation for big bucks already, think what we may accomplish by working with our neighbor. QDMA has something for everyone. From those that want larger bucks to just more deer on their property. If you have any questions feel free to email or PM me.
Thanks
Anthony
