Sunday I was quail hunting and found an unfired 12 gauge Remington High Velocity #6 shotgun shell on the ground. It was badly corroded, and the primer was pretty rusty as well. It obviously fell out of some rabbit hunter's vest last season. I stuck it in my pocket and forgot about it.
When we got back to the truck, I wondered if that thing would fire. It was so rough and scratchy I didn't want to put it in my gun's chamber, but curiosity won over, so I loaded it and pulled the trigger.

After laying on the ground for probably 10 or 12 months, all kinds of snow and rain, that thing fired as pretty as you please. I was shocked, but pleasantly so.

Too bad 22 shells aren't as weather proof. They turn into duds if you so much as spit around them.

Please don't do that. Shells left in the weather, shot may have corroded into a solid mass and could blow your gun up.Especially, steel shot shells.
