How many of you use and like Core-Lokt bullets?

They're fine, as are Winchester's "Powerpoints". BUT the very best bullet I've found was Winchester "Silvertips". Too bad they are no longer made.:(

i have used them on deer. they work fine. just buy several different brands of ammo and go shoot...see which one your gun likes. thats the one i would shoot.
the remmington ammo i shot grouped fairly well, but on game performance was very good.

I've used 'em for years in my .35 Remington (Marlin 336.) I really like the 200gr Core-Lokt bullets in that caliber. A fella ("35Remington") over at Shootersforum.com has done/posted extensive expansion tests with a variety of bullets for the .35 and the Core-Lokt outperformed nearly all of them (in terms of expansion and holding together) from 25 yards all the way out to 200 yards.
[edited to add] I don't rely only on someone else's testing though. I've taken a lot of deer with that levergun and it always does a number on 'em. I've never had a failure from the Remington ammo.

Never had a problem with core-lokts when I used them for deer. I started buying Winchester ammo when I do buy factory rounds because I like Win brass as a handloader...it has a little more powder capacity as a rule than Rem brass.
I have a 7400 Remington that will not hit a barn with Remington ammo, but I have a 94 Winchester that loves them! Also, my daughter shoots a Browning 7mm-08 that loves Remington ammo. Every deer I've seen hit with a Core-lokt was easy to find! Big holes through them!

I have had problems with the power point shells where they went through to hot and left very little if any blood. The Core-lokt are my second favorites behing my good old trusty Hornady rounds. I shoot a Browning BAR 270. It means the word to pull up on a deer and feel confident in your weapon and shell. Makes a world of difference...:)

It seems to me that they work great in the slower cartridges, I shoout them in my 35 remington and they are great. My buddy uses them in his 30-30 with great success. I tried them years ago in a 30-06 and was not happy with them, the sinchester silvertips were tye best.
Just my thoughts
Good luck

My Son Killed 2 Deer Last Season with Remington core-lokt 100gr in a .243
We did not have to track either deer, the buck he shot stumbled a few yards and dropped. the doe he shot never took one step. Of couse I think it was excellent marksmanship ,considering who taught him!

I use Core-Lokt in all my rifles (30-30, 30-06, & .270), and they have always done what they are supposed to do.
Winchester Silver Tips group well and do the trick too, but I don't buy them very often because they've gotten hard to find and cost a little more.
Winchester Power-points just don't group as well for me as the Core-lokt or Silver Tips.
On a side note, I picked up a few boxes of Winchester Silver Tips at the Wal-mart in Winchester last week. They had plenty so I grabbed a few... just in case...;)

When I shot factory fodder, the 165 Core-Lokt's were all I'd shoot in my 30/06. They would drive nails and NEVER lost a deer to them. Handload now and tho' you can buy the Core-Lokts to reload, I found another bullet instead! Good, reliable ammo!

I shot an 8pt yesterday afternoon with an 30-06 150 gr Core-Lokts and he fell in his tracks. He was 85 yards. The only thing i didnt like about them was the exit hole was so small i could barely stick my little finger in. But im more happy cause he just kicked 3 or 4 times and that was all.

My one experience with cor-lokts was that they did not open up well on thin-skinned game. Three of us shot wild boar with 180 grain round nose in an 06. The entrance and exit hole were the same diameter. This may be due to the fact that we used a heavier bullet (180 gr) than actually necessary or it could be that the core lockts are for tougher game. With my particular gun, I have had remarkable success with either the Hornaday 165 grain rn or the Winchester Silvertip 165 gr. Again, these are lighter (and presumably easier to open) than the 180's. All three shot a repectable group. Now, for the real reloading issue
YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY.
That's the beauty of reloading. If you have the time and the money, you can custom tune your rounds to your rifle and use.

I would have to say the core lok is really similar to the bonded nosler. About the same performance. I am highly impressed with Swift bullets. They are expensive but, worth the money.

They changed the jacket on the spitzer(pointed) corelockts some time ago, NOT an improvement IMHO.....
The roundnose is still the same AFAIK.......
The 180 roundnose .308 is an Elk or larger bullet, so it wouldn't open very well on deer or hogs.....Most 180+ .308 bullets are designed for penetration with limited expansion for larger/tougher game......though some use 'em for deer, they're not IMHO near the best choice of what is available......
The 165 Hornady is a great deer round IMHO; opens easily but NOT too far back real quickly perhaps the "best of both"???

If I were you guys I would try a smaller grain bullet. I used to shoot a 150 grain from my .270 and then I switched to a 130 grain. I think you will notice the exit hole is a little bigger then the larger grain bullets are. Just give it a try and see what you think.

i am using the swift bullets as well. very, very impressive. if you loose a deer shooting them it is definately not the fault of the bullet.....

Keith I have a buddy that hunts with a Ruger .220 swift and he loves it. I will tell you it is a tack driver. I know he has never had a problem dropping a deer with one. I am thinking about getting me a .223 or a .220 swift which one would you prefer.
thanks,
Wingman

not trying to confuse you, but i am using the swift scirroco bullet, not the .220 swift caliber....i shoot a remington 300 ultra mag with 150 grain swift scirroco bullets. just a tad bit of overkill, but dead is dead...

My Son killed a doe yesterday with his trusty .243 and core-lokt 100 gr ammo
He shot her at almost 250yds, broadside bullet hit just above the heart and exited through the top of the shoulder blade on other side.
The entrance wound was big enough to stick your finger in, the exit was a little larger than a golf ball. The Doe ran less than 50yds and was dead.
That makes 3 for him with core-lokt ammo we know it does the job!

i have had nothing but great success with the core-lokts out of every gun i have shot them with .
i bought a new gun and was experimenting with another ammo that grouped a little better and decided to hunt with them this year BIG MISTAKE the entry hole was very small and the exit hole wasnt much bigger than a quater and thats out of a 7mm. very little blood eventhough it was a double lung shot , you can bet next year im back with the core-lokt.!!!! just my findings, the groups werent enough to worry about and when i shoot something i want big holes and lots of blood !!

I'm with the majority here. I've taken 8 deer over the past 5yrs all with a .308 using 150gr Core Lok't and have not had one run over 20yds before piling up.

Personally, I really like core-lokts. I have taken several deer with them, anything from average sized does to 180-200 lb bucks, many of them running when shot, and never had to follow a blood trail. They have always been within sight when they fell. I use the 180gr. soft points in a .30-06. They won't be as accurate as "pointed" bullet, but they will expand. Where I hunt it's rare to get a shot over 100yds. so I'm not too worried about "driving tacks". If I were to hunt more open land I'd go with a PSP or ballistic tip though.
