MEDFORD, Ore. Some people lose sleep worrying about having too little money, but an opposite reason has been keeping Curtis West awake.
Although they haven't come forward, it appears West's parents are the winners of the 340 (m) million-dollar Powerball jackpot.
West tells the Mail Tribune of Medford, Oregon, "I'm having kind of a hard time adjusting to the fact that my life is going to be different."
He says he even missed a midterm exam at Oregon State University because he wasn't able to sleep -- and when he finally snoozed he slept through the test.
A lottery spokesman says Steve West plans to validate his winnings later this week.
The lottery checked with West to investigate rumors that the ticket was purchased by a 17-year-old. That could have gotten the seller in trouble, but wouldn't have invalidated the prize

Poor guy.

You know, everyone says they want to win the lotery, but less than 20% of the people are prepared for the life changing event. The divorce rate among lottery winners is in the 70% area!

I want more money as much as the next person, but stats like that are scary!

You can't be serious!:D What could be better than being a single male w/ 340 million in the bank. There would be plenty of time left for kids and marriage later on!!

I know, I know.. What about love? You're probably right, but it doesn't hurt to dream. It won't happen to me anyways because I don't play. The lottery is a tax on stupid people!

Must be horrible to sleep through an exam b/c you're family just won 340 million. I have an exam today...maybe I'll sleep through it and see what happens?

lol. I believe that IF I even showed up for that exam I'd be drunker than a monkey and wearing a shirt that says "rich and single".

I dont need millions, all I want is enough to pay everything off and buy a couple hundred acres of land somewhere. Only thing millions is good for is attracting trouble

I know a guy that won a few million. Family and friends appeared like cockroaches, sucked him dry because he was afraid to say no.

Lottery winners are subject to blackmail, kidnapping, extortion, you name it. Every cancer patient and hardluck case in the country will be hitting you up for a grubstake. And it never ends. If you buy your nephew a truck/house/boat, he'll be back next year wanting more/better/bigger. A big win is guaranteed to cost you friends and family because at some point you'll have to say no.

I asked the guy what his advice would be to the next lottery winner. His answer? "Build a high wall."

That's funny, I was just talking about this a couple days ago before I read this. Told my wife that if I won that much money, I'd build a castle, with a real moat. :)

This guy in Oregon probably realizes how big of a mess that guy from I think West Virginia is in. That guy gave 10% to the church as if it were his free ticket into heaven, then took a big bag of it to a strip club and left it in the front seat of his car, only to get stolen. His house has been broken in several times. His granddaughter I believe was murdered in his house, but maybe that was his granddaughter's friend. Regardless, she got all messed up on drugs after he won and had access to all the money.

That guy from WV was messed up LOOOOONG before he won a penny. A friend (who knows that guy) called me one day while he was driving that guys brand new Ferrair F360 Modena Spyder around Ashland. He said it there was beer cans all over the floor and cigarette butts and ashes overflowing from the ash tray and ground into the carpet... Sounds like he just went from PWT to RWT.:D
