Looks to me like once again they are loaded. No anti-Tubby comments needed, but at first glance they could be better than last year, which is a surprise, even to me. The newbies could make an immediate impact IMO--a NEEDED immediate impact in their positions. Anyone else have look, and whatchathink?

I'm excited about this year too!! Rekalin Sims is going to be instant impact, Rondo should be great, Crawford has tremendous upside, and Alleyne is going to be a defensive force.

JP: I am excited also.

BTW, did you read about the 6' 9" recruit we lost to the Tar Heels? He stated that he wanted a faster pace of play and they have at Kentucky.

Go cats.

Yep, we've lost a couple of good ones..

These are gonna be key factors IMO.

1. Will Rondo be able to score from more than 5 feet away from the basket?

2. Will we have a center? It's reported that both have been working very hard over the summer. Orbzut has supposedly been working with Nazr Mohammad.

3. Can Sparks show up to play more than 1 out of every 5 games?

4. Will Bradley get the minutes he deserves, since he looks to be the only pure scorer we have?

5. Will Tubby decide to speed up his painfully slow offense to eliminate all of those shot clock violations we had last year where we couldn't even get a shot.

6. Will there be a distracting side show put on by one of the basket cases? I.E- Morris- Crawford

The Cats definitely need to play up tempo this year. That half-court nonsense would be wasted with this guard talent.

A quicker pace would be nice, but I would also like to see us get some forwards that were more versatile. Meaning that they could shoot outside occasionally, drive to the basket, and rebound. It looks like we've got excellent guards, HUGE centers, but not much depth in the 3-4 spot. It would be nice to get another player like Jamal Mashburn in a KY uniform.

I was four rows from the floor for Big Blue Madness this year. It was pretty entertaining. Sparks was lighting them up during the 3 pt comp. crawford was getting nasty during the dunks. Shagari nearly blew the top off of Rupp when he slammed it with both feet flat on the ground.

Past that I still saw some sloppy play. No one hit there free throws very well and there were some missed layups. It's early though and we looked to be stacked with talent. Tubby will bring them in shape and we will be a contender again this year.

I think Art drilled the things to look for and hillhntr is right that the depth in the 3-4 spot could be limited---That to me depends on if Orbbie plays the 4 well or at all for that matter.

Dam shame to lose a player of that kid's caliber to a team for the "fast pace"....but I can't blame him. Take a good look at the last few years' teams....who averages over 15 pts per game? Who averages over 10 boards per game? The list is very limited....TEAM ball is valuable and CAN win championships, BUT it isn't all that attrative to some super-talents that want to showboat their skills for the NBA.

I hope they are good enough......Don't look past LSU this year for SEC title run...they are young and super talented too.

Good post Art.

This team has a huge amount of guard position talent. The guard play should be exciting.

Yes nothing could be better than basketball in Kentucky, Life is good when you can sit in deer camp and pick up the game over the radio even if it is just a pre-season game with Bangledash Southside Jewish school of the blind.... I just wish there was not as much pressure on the boy's in Blue...Art, we ought to get some of the Central Ky. hunters together at a local establishment for a game down the road. Would be nice to meet all and partake of a cool barley pop....:D

Heck yeah! There has already been a few people who were talking about getting together in Lex a while back, just to have some frosty pops if nothing else.

So far I like what I see at UK. Now the sooner everybody does his job on the TEAM and does it well without any personal crap the better we'll become all season long.

I think that might be too much to ask for this team. We've got at least 2 starters that are here for no other reason except for themselves. Morris could care less about UK, he's looking towards the future. Mark my words, within the first 5 games this season it will become evident that Rondo is as well. You won't SEE a damn nationally televised game where they don't talk about him being predicted to be a high first round pick next year. Tubby already told one of his point guard recruits that Rondo is gone after this season. I just hope he learns how to shoot before he heads for greener pastures.

I think they will take their bumps early. But by February they will be rolling!! The key is the Juco transfer and the forward position. They do not have many great players but, they have a slew of good players. I see seven or more players that could possibly average 7 or 8 points agame.

Wow...when it comes to UK b-ball---rarely do I disagree with Art. But I don't think Rondo will go the "I in Team" route. I think he will continue to bundle up the assists and steals and his offense will begin to impress. Granted, I DO agree that the first round pick talk will start early and may even be true if that jump shot improved.....but rarely do you ever see a jump shot improve in one year to the level of NBA. Anymore tho, NBA talent and "NBA talent" is a different thing. He may go anyway after this year, but I just don't see the selfishness in him.....yet..... Gonna be interesting as always. Thank God its basketball season :D

Well, I think Rondo has a real good head on his shoulders, but with all the talk I think he will just naturally start thinking the way others tell him he should. Tubby is planning on him being gone, so somethings up behind the scenes. I just don't want UK to end up like UNC after last season.
