I have a new shotgun and instructions on how to do pattern testing. The suggestion I have is a 30" target at 40 yds. I find just such a target designated ST-2 by the NRA. But I find no such target available for sale anywhere. Has anyone done pattern testing on a shotgun and, if so, what target did you use? Does it matter?

Or should I just buy some construction paper and draw a 30"-ish circle on it?:D

pistoleer.com or targomatic.com-try them. I have been using targomatics because of the way the target is set up and like them. BIG boxes work well too or butchers paper if you can find it big enough. You also will be able to tell if your shotgun is shooting to point of aim.

newspaper is about the right size....and you'll need several sheets for different combinations

Thanks. I'll check out the websites. I'm going to the range tomorrow and it'll be newspaper in the meantime.

BINGO!

Plain, white paper big enough to get a 30" circle on (bigger paper is even better) is all you need. Nothing fancy about patterning a shotgun. ;)
