Thanks---good post!!! The pictures of the busses has become a "poster child" of the ineptness of "leadership" in this State.Unfortunately to add injury to insult- Our Parish loaned over 80 busses to help with the immediate evacuation.Because of "turf wars" and indecision you can clearly see the result. Our Parish had to lease new busses at an added tax burden to the citizens to get the kids to school the following weeks---Go Fiqure~!!!!

Thats what I was thinking too. The one is before FEMA had their hands slapped, and the second is after FEMA realized that the whole world was watching.

Uh, no.
People in Texas were talking about how they were a hundred times more ready for something like that before Katrina ever even made landfall.
Texas leadership had those plans in place, LA leadership had a "let's hope it's not as bad as the entire world is telling us it's going to be" attitude.
Still amazes me that some people think the federal government can just swoop in and force their hand on everybody.

I wasn't aware that is was fema's job to evacuate people. I thought they came in after the fact. Not that they did a good job at that. Thats like saying that fema should be here to evacuate our towns the very moment that we go under a tornado warning. That doesn't make much cense does it? HEATH

Don't think that at all. But it still amazes me that some people can't even admit that maybe FEMA screwed up ALSO. ALSO meaning I put blame on local goverment like everyone else.

Except that FEMA knew for 2 days what was coming and how big it was.

I wasn't singling you out. ;)
But FEMA screwing up after the fact has nothing to do with the context of this post... which is people being evacuated beforehand.
So what if FEMA knew how bad it was going to be? Everybody in the USA knew how bad it might be besides the people in charge in LA.
Should however many thousand troops and civilian forces be activated for something that they have no clue what the actual fallout was going to be? NO was fine for at least 24 hours until the levee broke. What if it had held? There would be people raising hell for the government wasting tax dollars to mobilize all those people for nothing.
It's a lose / lose situation no matter how you go about it.

agreed wholeheartedly:D
It was a bad mistake on everyones part. Democrats want to blame the President and FEMA, and Republicans want to blame the democratic leaders at ground zero in N.O.
In the meantime while everyones pointing fingers, people have forgotten that you can't rely on the Govt. to do everything for you. There comes a time when you have to take charge of things around you for your own sake. That was one big factor in N.O, so many of those people had gotten used to letting the govt. solve all their problems that they couldn't think for themselves well enough to get off their ass and move just a few miles away.. Then it's the fault of the President naturally, because "he doesn't care about black people"..

And the N.O. and LA. goverments didn't??? Yes FEMA screwed up. I don't think anyone can deny that. All I am saying is that it is not their job to evacuate people. Besides why would the mayor of N.O. need FEMA to run those school busses anyways? Do we need to Federalize another dept. The Federal school bus adminstration??? Come on, they should have used those buses. HEATH
