There has been a huge amount of inuendo and bunk about high fence facilities. Before you throw the babies out with the bath water you might want to check out these two articles that illustrate a valid need for opportunity, controled enviorment and results!
If you take the time to read all 3 you can see the opportunity and final results!

I have never said that all high fenced hunts are wrong. These can be wonderful opportunities for our youth; handicapped or diabled; or for hunters in general. Not all high fenced hunts are conducted in small dirty enclosures, some highfenced ranches cover square miles, not yards! As a matter of fact, I feel KALA could help themselves and even muster support from groups like the LKS by turning their energy towards working with the KDF&W in trying to lift the limitations on shooting preserves and maybe even create new ones, as a means of expanding their markets for deer. I think most people would go along with ethically, properly managed and licensed shooting preserves. This would create a wider market for farm raised cervids. Also instead of issuing new permits, which would create competition, explore the idea of partnerships with wouldbe new permit holders. This, I feel could aleviate the problem of over population ontheir farms, thusly narrowing the possibility for desease. At any rate all parties concerned KALA,KDF&W and the Dept. of Ag. must develope the attitude of working together in the sprit of solving this ever growing ember before it becomes a full fledged fire. All sides as well as being very passionate about there issues, must realize that there will have to be give and take to work through any problem. The attitude of my way or the hiway does not work in any democracy.

If only everyone could look toward compromise, it wouldbe alot more productive. the name calling ect get us no where. personally when I started getting called a peta member just for trying to work with the KDFWR to protect the sport I like so much it did not win friends for KALA.

The whole problem is KDFWR (after 4 years of meetings) would never reconogize Private owned farm raised cervids as any thing but wildlife in their regulations. Seperate regulations might have worked under KDFWR but they would not do that. Instead they insist they are wildlife and the regulations state that no cervid can be taken (killed) etc except with a valid hunting license and during season. Technically this is construed to mean that I cannot kill my own animal with out a license and only during season. This is only one example of the problem and there are many others.
KDFWR passed regulations that a fence containing farmed cervids must be 6 ft off of the owners property line. (Justified or causing a loss of use on 6 ft of your property)
KDFWR passed a resolution that there would not be any hunting reserve permits issued for hoofed animals and one also stating that the existing hunting reserves could not restock any hooved animals.
Meeting after meeting has been held with KDFWR since 1999 farmers have been told that if you don;t like what we are doing sue us. Agreements have been reached on many issues with commissioner Bennet and commissioner Jon Gasset and even put in writting and then KDFWR would go and change things.
Compromise is something that the farmers have tried however trust of KDFWR is something that is not there anymore..
By KDA regulations I cannot sell you a live cervid unless you have a valid propagation permit and be enrolled in the CWD Program. This is good to keep control on CWD. I can sell you a animal that is killed on the farm and have the head tested for CWD as all farm raised cervids that die or killed have to be tested for CWD. Well now is that called Canned hunts by those opposing my farming operation(YEP I am afraid it is)? Animals killed on the farm can be construed as any thing you want to call it I guess. But truly what difference does it make as to whether it is called hunting, picking, culling through the herd or whatever it is all slaughter of the animal. It would be your choice as the buyer.
I have been a hunter -fisherman for 57 yrs and have never hunted behind a high fenced enclosure or fished in a trout pond at the sports shows and I have never been forced to hunt or kill an animal, It has always been my choice as it should be for every one.

I added the latest in the progression for one youngster, I'll bet each of us could identify many other kids that could benefit from a similar opportunity!
