Will rabbit/squirrel/quail hunters be required to wear orange vest and hats on WMA's during state-wide deer gun hunts, same as discussed for deer bow hunters??

Hey VS,
I can't speak for the Department, but I don't think they would apply it to one group of hunters without applying it to all (with the exception of waterfowl hunters).

I would just be happy if small game hunting WAS allowed on the WMA's of my district!!!!!!

Brian, why would they not apply it to waterfowl hunters. Bowhunters and waterfowl hunters each walk to their place to hunt and then hunt from a stationary position ( I know there are some exceptions before the old deer stalkers jump on me ) At Green River WMA where I hunt , there is waterfowl hunting going on in prime deer hunting areas. Don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating this for anybody. I think it's wrong...wrong...wrong. Unnecessary regulation. Everyone needs to ask themselves, if this passes...WHAT IS NEXT?

GSP, which of your WMAs is closed to small game hunting? The only one I'm aware of in the system is Central KY WMA and that's because it is a dedicated field trial area. Even W.KY WMA allows small game hunting around field trials.
My bet is you are referring to the closing of several WMAs for small game hunting on Dec. 31st? If this is true you are ignoring the two months that takes place before the 31st.
For anyone who hunts quail or rabbit on a WMA during the two month season, I wonder how rare a quail and rabbit becomes by Dec. 31st--pretty rare. Surely no one thinks these animals would become more numerous on January 31st? Is it the desire to kill every last one of the "breeders"? That's a 100 year old idea that nearly cost us many of our most beloved game species. It cost us the Passenger Pigeon.
DC, I would like to appoligize for my statement. I was having a bad day and I've had some bad dealings with my local WMA. Yes it is Central WMA.
There has been some things happing here that many are very unhappy about. These have been passed on Tom and others. We are looking forward to discussing these later with yourself and the Dept. I do not want to get into these via this forum.
I, by no means want the populations (breeding) harmed and I support the efforts made by the Dept concerning the seasons on WMA's.
While I am at it. I would really like to pass along a word of compliment for the Fleming WMA Manager, Buford. He does an outstanding job there. He is a person that takes great pride in his work and his efforts reflect on the quality of this WMA.
Again, I appoligize for my statement and it was not necessary. Thank you for your feedback.

Bowcrazy, let me condition this by saying I have no idea how the reg. will be written. My comment regarding waterfowl hunters was referring to those who boat into a blind. The blinds, being on the water, should be a good distance from any public property (and any legal deer gun hunters). If they are walking into their blinds, then I would imagine that they would have to wear hunter's orange. Again, this is all just speculation. I guess we'll all just have to wait and see what happens. I don't like the thought of wearing hunters orange while bowhunting, but as I said earlier - the pressure that some areas such as Taylorsville receives from both bowhunters on the WMA and gun hunters on the fringe areas, there is definitely potential there for an accident.
