Can I shoot rifled slugs through a rifled shotgun barrel or do I have to use the sabot slugs?
sabots!
The rifling on slugs adds stability to the flight of the slug since there is no rifling in the barrel of a smooth bore shotgun to do so. The rifling on the barrel of a rifled shotgun does the same.

you can shoot either one but you will probably find the saboted slugs will give you better results. but for the average shot with a shotgun either one will do as long as your not trying to extend your range to 100 yards +. just my opinion

A plain old lead rifled slug will leave lead foulings in the barrel but so wil sabots, they just leave plastic instead. Nothing a good cleaning after a few rounds cant fix. Fire the best you can afford and what shoots accurate enough for your given hunting situation and you cant go wrong. IMO:D
I, too, have heard that shooting rifled slugs can damage a rifled barrel. If you hae a rifled barel, better stick with the sabots. The are more expensive than regular slugs, but new barrels are even more expensive!
