do i understand this right? we no longer have to
purchase deer or turkey tags? are they all inclusive
w/the purchase of a hunting liscense? if this is true
isn't it a huge loss in revenue?

what system is in place to keep someone from buying a
liscense at walmart then going to k-mart and buying
another liscense?

YES
KY what you have stated is true...
but like in the past few years i am sure either your drivers license
or SS# will be used to identify the purchaser....so therefore should prevent anyone from buying duplicates..

DC will explain, but you still have to "buy" a deer and/or turkey permit, you just don't get carcass tags as in the past. If you buy the license and tags all at one time, you'll only have one piece of paper with what you bought specified on it. The log is on the back for recording your take.

Yep, Multi got it right. The permit is still required (the carcass tags only cost about 3 cents). The permit is your "authorization" to pursue, with the intent to take, whitetail deer or turkey. You will need to make your own carcass tag if the deer leaves your possession; you give the deer to someone, a processor, taxidermist, or leave it hanging someplace where you ain't.

As long as you are with the deer carcass, the log will be your proof of legality.

just wondering. Being a taxidermist, I was under the assumption that when a deer was given to me for mounting, all that was required was the confirmation no. to be written in a log and to be attached to the antlers for the length of time this animal was in my possesion.
My question. Dc, in your post before me you say that you will make a carcass tag when the deer leaves your possesion.Processor,Taxidermist
somebody elses property etc. What does this mean for me? Do I now sit down with all hunters and watch as they make out their carcass tags in my shop, then put this somewhere on the animal? Does'nt the confirmation no.itself, along with the hunters name, address,ph. etc.seem to be just right? How many carcass tags can a single animal have ? everybody is going to have one but the guy who harvested the animal seems like.I dont mean for this to be a sarcastic approach to your post but I cant see the need for the carcass tag to be made out at my place for me to keep.JUST WONDERING.

Are the next season tags and licenses available now? I may as well get mine. Pa's license sales release date for new year was always the 1st day of June. I was always at Walmart at 6 am to get mine. Never like to wait too long, you never know what you may get into.

Yes, they've been available since before the end of the year. It always makes a good Christmas gift.

Multiple carcas tags won't be necessary. There must be one "homemade" tag on the carcass if it leaves the hunter's posession to go to a processor, taxidermist, friend, etc. As long as the hunter retains the animal his "log" is his documentation. However, when you "give" the animal to another person, that person doesn't have your log. This is far less complicated, not more complicated.

DC, what if the guy skins his deer,he brings the head to the taxidermist and takes the carcass to the processor, wont this require two carcass tags?

Your taxidermist has to put a tag on your rack with name, address and confirmation number, the meat processor will need the same information.

The fact that the hunter has a log (license) with this information on it in his wallet makes keeping the information much easier than before.

Seems simple enough to me. When I took my buck to the taxidermist this year, I gave him my used tag (statewide either sex) with the confirmation number on the back. At the processor, they wrote down all my personal information and attached it to the carcass.

The same thing is happening this year and going forward, except you wouldn't want to give your "used tag" to anyone. Your "tag" is now on the back of your license: this includes all tags; deer and turkey.

If you want to continue to hunt during the year, you will need to retain your license and "tag". Therefore, make out a simple carcass tag including the information required by the department and leave that with any (or all) of your harvest whenever you will not be with it.

If you have separated the animal (carcass and head), any and all parts that leave your possession will need a carcass tag for identification purposes.
