Within days of Smith & Wesson (S&W) introducing its new 500 Magnum revolver at the 2003 Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show earlier this month in Orlando, Florida, an Illinois anti-gun Democrat promised to seek a nationwide ban on the handgun.
Democratic Rep. Danny Davis says it's hard for him to rationalize a purpose for the 500 Magnum and that he believes the guns are made "to kill people."
Billed as the "most powerful production revolver in the world today," S&W says its new 500 Magnum cartridge produces nearly three times the muzzle velocity of a .44 Magnum round, one of the most powerful sidearm cartridges available.
But Davis says the .50 caliber revolver has no purpose in society except to cause injury and death to humans, and dismisses S&W's claim that it's intended for hunting wild game. He believes handguns in general are specifically designed to kill fellow human beings, whereas rifles and shotguns are typically relegated to hunting animals.
Davis says the 500 Magnum has a greater potential for becoming a lethal inner-city status symbol than an effective hunting tool, at least in his congressional district. He added that its high power combined with its concealability could make it the "weapon of choice for urban gangs."

I carry a Springfield Compact and it is hard enough to hide and I don't think my shoulder could take the punishment of carrying that thing all day.

It seems the 22 would be related in more street deaths than any other gun but hey thats just my obsecure thinking. I guess in politics size matters.

Think he needs to learn it's not the size of the bullet but where you put it that counts.

Then maybe he would quit trying to put his hands on our guns.

Pistols are EVIL.[:(] Black rifles are EVIL.[:(] The LEO's are evil when they arrest the gang bangers shooting each other downtown.[;)]
I wish I had a solution to the problem of misguided liberals.[:(!]

Would Danny boy think that any car with more than 100 horsepower is just meant to race? That any person who dresses attractive is just meant to get raped? That anyone who drinks a glass of wine is meant to get drunk? I could go on and on. The point being is that one does not follow the other no more than running for public office means you are going to take bribes and peddle your influence, eh...maybe that last one was a bad example!

Lawsy. Rifles aren't meant to kill people. I'm sure that's what Kalashnikov was thinking as he designed the AK-47. I will bet whatever you want that there are more Kentuckians on public assistance because of crack cocaine, crystal meth and oxycontin than all the guns. To say nothing of booze.

Living in western KY I could be in sections of the Shawnee National Forest (Illinois) in less than an hour. IL has done just about everything they can to make sure I don't bother crossing the river. Most small time politicians think they can get on the news with anti-gun talk. Sounds like old Danny boy showed that is true. Just like the people of northern CA are outnumbered by the voters in LosAngeles the voters in southern IL are outnumbered by the Chicago bunch. Too bad[:(]. Southern IL has a lot to offer for the hunter but the state will probably continue to harrass and legislate the sportsman until he gives up.

Hey all, just wanted to pipe In, I live N.W. of chicago and was installing burgler alarms for ADT for two years in the southside of chicago, First of all, the "people's" (as they like to call them selves) wont be owning these "status symbols" due to the fact that they can't afford them, I.E.-costs more then $49.50
Second of all It's not a "nine"
(mabye If conceal carry was legal in IL I wouldnt be a sitting duck)
lastly Danny Davis is a putz, thats why I vote republican
And an NRA MEMBER!!!

P.S. wont be living in IL fore ever
