A proposal that would've allowed Indiana to put a $5 bounty on coyotes died last week in a state House committee.
Democratic Rep. Dale Grubb says his original bill, which would've authorized the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) to put a $5 bounty on coyotes in problem areas, proved too contentious. The IDNR and animal-rights advocates opposed the bill.
Instead of the $5 bounty, the Indiana House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee endorsed a bill that would clarify current law by allowing landowners experiencing problems with coyotes to kill the predators year-round. They could not use poison.
This new bill will now be sent to the full House for consideration.
