A few weeks ago I bought a primos rabbit squeeler mouth call to do a little coyote hunting. On my second trip out and after setting up four different spots and calling in a place I knew there were coyotes around I figured I didn't know what I was doing. I decided to head back to my truck. When I was about 150yds. out in a field and in the wide open I spotted two coyotes about 450yds. out in the field. I dropped down, there was a slight rise of a hill between us and I was out in the open. I tried calling at them but they couldn't hear me. I watched them digging for mice and hunt along a ditch for about 20 minutes until one had worked its way in to about 300yds. out from me. I was going to try a shot but decided to try and call one more time. This time they heard me, dropped what they were doing and made a bee-line toward me. They dropped down below the rise and when the first one apeared it was at about 65yds. and trotting my way. My shot hit him a little far back and in ran out, gut shot about 300yds. My second shot put him down. I was hooked. That was on Sat. and I was starting to think maybe I got lucky and killed the dumbest coyote around but on Thursday afternoon I was able to connect again killing a female at about 150yds. on my second set up that day. I've hunted twice since then with no luck but did see five one morning, just not able to see them before they saw mee.(hunting river bottoms) I've been a dedicated duck/goose and turkey hunter for years, I like the calling games and now I'm hooked on these coyotes. I also like hunting for something and not running into 15 other people trying to beat you to your spot.

I killed my 3rd. coyote this afternoon on a buddy of mine's farm. He's been telling me about all the coyotes he's been hearing at night out behind his house. He lives on 100 acres, mostly cropland with very little woods. When I saw his place I wasn't very impressed for the lack of cover. About 400yds. behind his house is some of the biggest woods around so I set up against a tree in a fence line about 250yds. from the woods. On my very first sequence of calls I could see something running through the woods towards me. I mean on my second or third squeal they were on there way! It was two coyotes and the one in front (wich was also the biggest) ran all the way to me. I shot him on the run at about 50yds. I again hit him a little far back but my .22-250 stopped him in his tracks. I got back on my call trying to stop the other one but it had gotten down wind from me and probably picked up my scent, needless to say it was gone.
Oh well I am not going to get greedy I was glad to connect again. Yeah I'm hooked.
