I got invited to go Elk hunting in Colorado about a year ago and it is getting down to time to go and i am having second thoughts about going. You guys think it would be sorry of me to back out on going ? I have always wanted to go and have spent allot of money preparing for the trip on a new bow ,calls etc...., My cousin is who invitied me to go and is expecting me to go. But i am just having second thoughts about spending all that money on the trip.

Go ahead and go. You will have a great time, plus it is important to keep your word. Years from now, you will look back on this and be glad you went.

By all means, go. I went a few years ago and had a wonderful time. The scenery is awesome and just to get a look at some of the animals is amazing.

Go on & go. I went 4 years ago. I spent alot of money in the process & didn't even get to pull back my bow. But i did enjoy seeing for myself what it's like. I can say I've been there & done that & would go back again. Some beautiful country.

I would say go if at all possable. You never know if the chance will come up again. But if going will cause financial problems then you have to put your priorities in order. One rule I have tried to live by is family first-hunting second. Not sure of your age but it seem to take me several years before I could afford the out of state and out of country hunts without spending funds needed otherwise. I still got to make several dream trips, just took a while to get there.

I spent a boatload to go several years ago. The hunt was pretty disappointing. While busy not having much succes I discovered that western
slope hunting was not my cup of tea. It's quite different from close in Kentucky whitetail strategy and sitting on a mountain glassing 250-400 yard shots didnt really do it for me.
I wont go back, but I guess everyone should go to see if they like it.

Ditto to what Duster said , family first.

I agree. Don't put the family in a bind. BUT, don't but your buddy in a bind either, by waiting till the last minute to back out. Just tell him as soon as possible that money is tight and you just can't go. If money isn't the reason, and you can reasonably afford it, then you should be a man of your word and go like you said you would.
If he can find a replacement this late in the game, then great, somebody else can go that would have the trip of a lifetime. But take care of it now, one way or the other.

Money isn't everything,,, Unless it is going to put your family in the street.

I would go, then atleast you will have a good idea of what it takes when you get drawn to hunt Elk in Eastern Ky. :D

Will you always wonder " what if " ???

I have been Elk Hunting 3 times and got my first Elk (Cow) last year. It was a BLAST. I saw a Mt Lion, Antelope, and Moose. GO.... You will have a great time in Beautiful country.

I got within 30 yards of the cow I shot and got within 50 yards of several bulls. Prepare to do a lot of walking. I thought the only way to hunt elk was with a gun, but if you keep the wind right you can walk right up on them.:)

Everybody tells me if you get a chance to go you should take it. They also say you better buy a mule deer tag too

GO!!!

There are several reasons to go. You might not get another chance for years or maybe for ever, all kinds of things can come up to keep you from going again. Death in family, marrage, kids, school, job, money, house, etc, etc.

Any time you get a chance and have the money to cover it GO!!

Life is too short and we all miss out on a lot of things by backing out.

Thanks fella's, I am going to go ahead and go. I am not rich by no means. I have been working alot of overtime to pay for the trip. So i wont be putting my family in any bind. I have always wanted to go on a trip like this, and i am 44 years old now. Like some of you said I might not get another opportunity to go on a trip like this again. Although my cousin is already making plans for next year. LOL But he has been going out there for 25 years now. And has killed allot of Elk. That is one thing i am taking into consideration to. I am going with someone who know's his way arround. He has had job offers to become a guide. So maybe with a little luck i might get a shot at an Elk.

FANTASTIC !!! You have the best of all worlds,,, A guide for free, a place to go, and family to share it with.

EVEN if you don't see one Bull, it is still the chance of a lifetime to see all the stars at night, smell the clean air, and gaze for 100 miles from the top of a mountain.

I go every year for the past 12 yrs. I NEVER get tired of the land of a million views.

Good Luck to you !!! Let us know how it goes. :D

If you have the money, KEEP YOUR WORD;) "A man is only as good as his word." I've had guys back out on me. They only do it once. You'll be much happier if you go. It's a blast!! Nothing like it. If you never go again, you'll still be glad you went. How many guys on here that have gone hunting out West, have not wanted to go again? I went three more times. Never loosed an arrow but I loved each & every minute of every trip. GO:D

I say go, you've spent money already, you've given your word, and you can't get those things back now anyway. You might go and not get one or you might get the next record, but you'll have a great time either way and keeping your word could get you invited along again for years to come.

man trust me do not back out. elk hunting is the bomb!!!!!!!! it is worth the time, effort and money. just to be in those beautiful mountains is worth the cost. i regret every day i did not apply for CO and chose to bear hunt maine. if you decide to go be aware that it is addicting and you wont be able to stop your self next year.
