The KY Grouse Hunters Association and most of us personally have made that exact same appeal to the Dept. Basically, we are for anything that will help focus efforts on much needed upland habitat improvements, but at this point, the KDFWR are the ones who have refused to consider this method of extra funding.[:(!]

Speaking for myself, considering the thousands of dollars per year that I spend on my sport for licenses, dog food, vet bills, gasoline, hotels, guns, shells, clothing, accessories, etc., most of which is spent out of state where there are better bird populations, why would I not be interested in purchasing a $10.00 habitat stamp to try to maintain huntable populations in KY. It appears to me that the KDFWR AND the KY Dept of Tourism would see the error of their ways and try to keep some of my tourist dollars in KY.[V]

At this point though, for there to be any meaningful change in KY, the KDFWR upper management MUST show some interest in small game. The problem is not at the biologist or employee level, they are in the field and know what needs to be done. It is Dept management that has grown too political and arrogant in Frankfort to listen to and act on the wishes of the very sporstmen they are supposed to serve. Through their neglect and big game tunnel-vision, we now have lost habitat, lost opportunities, and lost revenue from decreasing license sales, and the KDFWR wonders why?[?] Well, Duh![:0]

I know that in California they have an "Upland Bird" stamp, and that is what you have to purchase to turkey hunt. It takes the place of the turkey permit, and it's only about $11.

If your interested in the KY Grouse Hunters Association, you need to contact Birdman (Ronnie Wells) at the Paintsville Rec Center, 606-789-2612. Don't call before about Tuesday as they are continuing to have some residual problems from this weeks flooding. Annual Dues are $12.00, which includes membership in the League of KY Sportsmen also.

How about planning to attend our next event, a club "fun" field trial on Sunday, March 9. Check out the thread in the CyberHunters Public Forum titled URGENT MESSAGE-WEATHER RELATED CANCELLATION for more info on the field trial and grouse picnic. Plans are being adapted as we speak due to the recent weather problems. We will be posting the updated schedule of activities here when finalized.

I pay more than enough to bird hunt this Commonwealth and don't see the need to contribute any more funds to the elk and turkey programs, which in effect is where it all goes anyway. I think it's a joke that birds hunters have to pay additional monies for dove and woodcock. You don't need a dove/woodcock permit for MT, ND, NE, MI, IN or SD! Why then does KY charge their own residents?

Bottom line, KY wants to run with the "big dogs" as a big game state and the upland game will have to fend for themselves!

Upland I agree with you, we don't need and should not have additional charges for habitat or what ever name you want to place upon it. We have enough money now, if we just spent it properly. I for one would be aginst additional fees.
