Hi all, I have a very old Ithaca model 37 featherlite 20 guage that has only been shot once. I wish I could give you an age on the gun but I really dont know. It was given to me by my great grandfather and he bought it new. I took it to a gun dealer here in Owensboro and they couldnt give me a round about date, all they could tell me is that the gun is in 100% condition. Im asking 350.00 for it the guys at the shop said its easly worth 450. or more. Please feel free to e-mail me at eric@blpcomics.com with any ? . Thanks for your time:)

Carver, I have one question. Why you selling it? I am guessing you are a young man. One word of advice. Don't sell the gun if you don't have to. Oil it up nice, store it and hope to give it to your son, daughter, niece or nephew someday(BTW, I have know idea what the gun is worth).
Again, I don't know why you are selling and you may have to do it, but it would be nice to be able to pass along an heirloom from a G-G-Grandfather.

some words of wisdom to ya young man, keep the gun. Some day you will regret selling it! I sold 2 shotguns when I was 16 and I'll never get them back.As you get older, you'll understand

I have a model 37 Featherlite in 12 gauge that my dad gave me. go to the Ithaca guns web site and you can see what serial numbers were made in what years. You can also read up on the history of the guns. I would agree with the other two do not sell it unless you have to. You might want to see if another family member would want to buy it. They are good guns and still worth good money.

Carver,
I assume you aren't wanting to sale great grandad's Ol' 37, but, need a appraisal of the guns insurable value for insurance. Go to one of the local gun shows, for real collectable gun values.

The Ithaca Model 37 you have is the finest pump ever made, IMO. Between my Dad and myself we have 3. I'd keep it around, especially if it was your Grandfather's.

Guy's You really dont know the situation here, there is no emotional conection at all here. It was an attemp for a man to make up for a grandsons mistake. I am 29 years old and have had this gun since I was 15 and it was the wrong way to make up for his mistake trust me. Nobody in my family wants anything to do with this gun, I have asked several times, but thanks for your concern though...:)

Yeah, Ithaca closed it's doors last month, but that's the third time. I've been counting, and used prices never go up. Good used hunting guns are always around 250, really nice ones more. There are a gazillion old parts guns out there of all gauges, so parts won't be a problem for years. The dang things don't wear out anyway.

This one has a touch of rust on the non-blued surfaces, like the trigger and the slide release. Oil that baby up, touch up the rust surfaces, and somebody will snatch it up. I'm looking for an old 37 in 16 ga with a imp cyl or mod barrel, vent rib preferably. I think that would make a dandy bird gun.

BTW, you could post the barrel length and choke of the gun. Also, post the serial number with the last 4 as X's. People could determine the time it was manufactured. That would help folks decide if they would want it or not.

Itaca is back in business now according to the local bait shop here in Owensboro, and the gunsmith I took the gun to told me that the gun is worth 450.00 min. I am just ready to get rid of the gun and not screw myself;)

I would sell it to the gunsmith. That is if $450.00 is what you are willing to take. What amazes me is how the spent shell and the new shell pass each other in the loading chamber and the spent shell lands at your feet and isnt thrown to the side.I had a 12 ga. vented rib barrel in mod.choke that I killed a bunch of game with some years back . I cant remember what I did with it but I have wished many a time that I had it back.

Did they offer your $450? If so take it.

What length of barrel and choke please.

It has a 28in barrel and mod choke, the gunsmith said he would only offer me 300. because he had to make a proffit off the gun.

What amazes me is how the spent shell and the new shell pass each other in the loading chamber ....

They don't really pass each other. The spent shell is ejected when the action is pumped back, and the forward stroke picks up the new shell and chambers it. They're pretty hard to get synchronized just right, but onced they're fixed they run like a sewing machine. Excellent hunting guns.

I am not trying to talk down your gun, but these dont trade as good as some guns, though they are some of the best guns for hunting you can get. I never could figure out why some good guns(like the 37) dont trade as high as some junk and vice versa. Bottom line is, you probably wont get what you want out of it, but good luck.
