I have been seeing an ant or two making their way around the inside of my house lately.. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good quality pesticide?? I know that they are really tough to kill and are not affected by the run of the mill ant killers.. I have tried a couple of things that I picked up at Home Depot, but I guess it's not working. I really don't want to call an exterminator, but I would like to get my hands on some deadly ant killer.

I went to Lowe's last year with the same problem. I got these disk that you set out and they work well. This other kind I bought though was the best. I will see if I still have any and let you know the name. It is like the disk except it has a liquid in it. I put it out where the ants were and they were gone in a week and I don't have a problem this year as bad as they were last year.

I believe I would be calling an exterminator. For all the ones you are going to catch or kill with a topical treatment like you buy OTC, there are bound to be many more that you aren't going to get.

Which reminds me, I need to call and get my yearly spraying done.

Art, Go to Lowe's get ANT TERO, it is in sealed packets with the posion that they carry back to the nest. I had a bout with them last weekend, they are gone and over with. We have used this stuff before and it works well.

I bought some Terro liquid last week that you put on a little peice of cardboard. It's suppost to attract them because it is sweet, sugary like liquid. As of right now, I'm still am seeing ants. I just put out some Spectracide killing dust as well, but as of yet I don't think it's making a difference.:( I will hit up Lowes in the next couple of days and tell them I want the stuff you have to sign a release for.:D I REFUSE to be punked out by the little guys.

But alot of time when you are seeing carpenter ants in your house you may have some termite damage! they live in the damaged wood when the termites get done eating!

Carpenter ants are a different beast than those little black ants you get in your house every so often. Unless you do something to treat the insides of your walls and under your house, I don't think you'll ever kill them all off with a dust or spray.

Bait is probably the best outside having it done by an exterminator. I'd get some of the stuff they can carry back to the nest rather than that sticky Toro stuff.

Deadaim, they may live in wood already termite damaged, but they will also tear up jack all by themselves. They don't need termites to do the first round of destruction for them.

Thats what I was scared of. I have done extensive searching under the house, outside, and in the walls. There is no sign of termites OR ants thank God.. I was told what is probably happening is that the ants have a nest somewhere out in the yard and they worker ants or scouts are what are making it into my crib.. I've got some firewood out back that may be their hide out.. That is on my list of things to do...

I've got a Chiminea (sp) that I like to overload sometimes after I quench my thirst. I've had the flame so high coming out of that thing out in the backyard that it looks like an F-16 is stuck nose first in my back yard with it's afterbuner on!:D Half of my neighbors laugh and the other half are ready to call 911!

All I know is that it's too hot to be buning wood in my fireplace, and I need to get rid of it if the ants are in it. Might be time for some more chiminea fun!:D It's so dry here that I might get locked up for arson if I do it though.

I appreciate all the advice!! I went to Lowe's today and bought some of the Terro traps. Now it's like I have a mini Jonestown massacre in my kitchen!:D Really cool. It's is the same stuff I bought in the bottle, but had little or no success with. For some reason, the little guys prefer the traps?? I highly recommend this stuff.

Malathon will work for household pest. And you can spray the foundation and your backyard for all sorts of pests. Read the label first.

go to wallyworld and buy some 20 mule team borax and some karo syrup (clear), mix it together into a paste. put in on something like index cards in the area where you're seeing ants. they'll pick up the sweet syrup and take it back to the colony where the borax will kill the colony. it works!

you can also spread borax on carpeted areas to kill fleas, just sprinkle it like carpet freshener and leave it for 3-4 days then vacuum it up and refresh it. after a week or so they're gone with no pesticide...

As a last resort, just back off to 40 yards and use a crossbow on them.
