Does new deer/turkey hunting regulation require Deer/Turkey Harvest Log to be filled out in INK ?? It should . Would help keep "outlaws" from filling out "Log" in lead pencil and then erasing when they get game home.
Anything in place to keep "outlaws" from maintaining more than one log, "maintaining two sets of books"??

The idea of two sets of "books" is a non issue being that the confirmation numbers have to be there as well.

CSS - That's not really true, as deer don't have to be called in till 9:00 A.M. the next morning, and turkeys not till dark of the day killed. It could happen, and probably will. But most will just transport home and take a chance not getting stopped. Some don't even transport at all.

OK Multi, what you're saying is: if I kill a deer I have to put the harvest on the tag, and if I don't call it in, I get checked later I would use the 2nd tag or "book"? If you are trying to beat the system, no system is unbeatable, what do you suggest?

BTW, I think both deer and turkey are to be checked in by midnight the day of harvest this year, at least that is being proposed.

I believe but will make sure the signing must be in ink.

CSS is correct, with telecheck there is no longer any need to give the deer hunter until 9AM the next day to check his deer. So the Commission will hear a proposal to standardize the check-in time requirement to midnight the day the animal is killed and recovered. Of course if you shoot the deer at dusk and don't recover it until the next day, the kill must be reported on the day you recover the animal. This will reduce the "decision" time for a person contemplating being a poacher by not reporting his or her harvest.

That's contrary to what Gasset said last week on the Strader show. He said the extra time was needed because deer are harder to retrieve than turkeys. Some are shot near dark and not recovered till late at night, or even the next day.

CSS - my suggestion would be to require a non-erasable pen be used, else it could be erased before the telechek call was required to be made. As you say, no system will stop those that want to poach.

I'm disturbed by Mr. Day's comments in Sunday's CJ newspaper though. He is quoted as saying "the regulation generally is not enforceable". What gives? Does the new man not support the new regulation? He did say that "he expects MOST hunters to comply".

The CJ article was a misquote. I've discussed this with Jonathan, he believes the new system is the best he's ever had the opportunity to work under.

I'm sure the log has to be filled out in ink, the signature on the tags had to be in ink before.

Joe ,
I reviewed our 76-page Hunting Guide and the Turkey Guide and didn't see the word INK used anywhere.Guide says marked, filled out, signed.
It may be there somewhere , but , Let's make it real obvious.
