wild hogs; could anyone tell me for sure where there is a huntable population of boars in the blue grass. i have heard so many rumors including stories of hogs in boone county and land between the lakes. i would be very gratefull for any information.

The only huntable wild hogs I know of are in the Big South Fork in McCreary County and around Dale Hollow Lake. I've never been to Dale Hollow, I have seen hog sign on Peter's Mountain in McCreary but never seen a hog. I believe most of the hogs are on the TN side of BSF.

As for other areas, a few escaped pigs could ber present anywhwere but no major populations that I have heard of.

People have been known to turn loose all sorts of critters in the LBL so I wouldn't bet against hogs over there. If there are any, however, they aren't widespread. If they'd run off the coyotes and a few of the "tourists", I'd be all for 'em!

I live in Boone county and can verify wild hogs around the Big Bone park area. Had a friend shoot one while deer hunting three years ago.

im really not sure why, but it seems most of the populations are around the ky/tn border

You are correct that most hog populations exist close to TN border. This is because there are many free-ranging feral hogs in TN and the hog-hunting culture is stronger there. Of course any hog population in KY that doesn't result from hogs legging it over from TN are illegal populations. Hogs are not good for KY. They have some nasty diseases (pseudo-rabies, brucellosis, etc.) and they are very destructive of the foods and cover our native wildlife require. How would you like for a herd of hogs to come through your deer or turkey hunting grounds fresh after the white oak acorns have fallen--the hogs will clean them up.
