Didn't quite know where to post this, fishing, eating, or general. I always think of eating first, so here it is!

I was cleaning a mess of bluegill the other night, saving the eggs like Dad always did when I was growing up. Mom fried them up just like the rest of the fish. Me & my brother would squabble over who got them if there was only a few, we liked them so much. Po Boy Caviar.

My wife found it disgusting that I would eat them, so I tell her everyone around here does it. Problem is, I can't find anyone outside of my immediate family who does. Not even my cousins, who I always figured would eat anything.

Anyone else out there like them?

Myself I wont eat them, but my wife loves those raw fish egg shushi rolls :(
She says she loves the way they pop in her mouth.

I like the eggs better than yhe fish.
My family has always cooked them.

Be careful when cooking as willpop and splatter hot oil.

I made the mistake of trying them several years back. It still makes me about half sick thinking about them. There is very very little food I don't like, hell I've even had possum which wasn't as bad as the f-f-f-fish eggs. Damn, I almost lost it there. :-)

Thanks dipits, was beginning to think I was the Last of the Mohicans on this one!

Mark, always thought I would like to try possum until I watched a family of 'em scurry from the insides of a dead bloated cow one day. From the wrong end, too, if you know what I mean.

I can hear them poppin' and sizzlin' in that hot fat now!

Fish eggs out of bluegill are good. Fish eggs out of catfish taste a little strong fishy to me. Caution when fryin', they'l pop grease on yah, if your'e not careful.

bluegill and crappie are the only ones I'll eat. The best part of springtime panfishing is the reward of a skillet full of eggs

Fish eggs rock, croppy eggs are great tasting.

mom thinks it is nasty for us to eat them, but once you have tryed them you will be wanting to go back out to get more. the only type better then croppy eggs is walleye eggs:)

My grandpa was telling me the other day that when he was a kid his mom used to fix em up. He said that he really liked them, but he hasn't had any in years.

I just don't know that I could bring myself to try them.

I've heard of that before, however, I have never had them. You guys got me wanting to try them though.

You got that right! If everyone had to watch "A Day in the Life" of a chicken... well, there wouldn't be many of us still eating them.

My dad used to have my mom fix them when I was a kid and I remember that I really liked them but I just can't bring myself to eat them again as an adult.

I eat raw fish eggs in sushi all the time I really like salmon eggs wrapped in seaweed.

Never thought of eating bluegill or crappie eggs.

And you say you fry them.

Do you batter each egg individually or do us just drop the whole glop down in some flour.

If you were to batter each egg individually you MIGHT be done by this time next year. The eggs are far too tiny for that. The only way I've seen it done was to just batter and fry the whole roe.

Yep, just fry up the whole pouch. Got a pretty good mess of 'em going now.
