Camped for four days on primitive site 20A on the lake, next to Trooper Island. Had a wonderful time, my 3 sons (10, 11, and 15) fixed breakfast every morning, put up the tents, loaded and unloaded the boat. Now that they are older, camping is much easier.
As usual the lake was beautiful, the water clear and just the right temperature for swimming. The only negative was the rednecks in 5 houseboats that pulled up in our cove on the last evening at about 9:00 PM, horns honking, drunks screaming, music blaring and women dancing on the top of the boats (That part was ok). A few minutes later they were joined by 6 ski-boats and a handfull of jet-skis, full of what I call the "LCE" (lower criminal element). They finally went to bed around 2:00 AM.
I decided some payback would be in order at about 6:00 AM, but to my amazement, most of them were prowling around on the bank or on top of the boats already. Just like in hunting, we have a certain proportion of slobs on the lake. In all my years of camping and fishing on Cumberland, Dale Hollow, Laurel, Barren, Kentucky, and Barkley lakes, I have never seen more rude behavior up close. The houseboats pulled no more than a 100 yards away from our camp and between another camp when they set-up shop.....which would have been fine if they would have acted decent. I had bad thoughts all evening about the Buckeye and Hoosier Navy, and then to my surprise, all of the ski-boats were Kentucy boats!
Anyway, if you ever have a chance to camp at Dale Hollow, do it. The water can't be beat.
